Two Oscar-Winning Westerns Now Streaming on Peacock

At the start of this month, we’re greeted by an abundance of fresh movies and TV series on streaming platforms, and it’s Peacock that leads the pack with a pair of outstanding Western productions.

Although television series, such as 1923 Season 2 which recently premiered on Paramount+ and Netflix’s Ransom Canyon approaching soon, currently rule the Western game in the West, some genuine genre classics are being uploaded onto streaming services this month.

However, Peacock is a streaming platform that’s definitely worth checking out, boasting two must-watch shows for any dedicated cowboy enthusiast.

Thankfully, they’re both available to stream right now.

Peacock has added Dances with Wolves and Brokeback Mountain

Beginning March 1, Peacock added Dances with Wolves and Brokeback Mountain to their library; these films each took home several Academy Awards.

The critically acclaimed film “Dances with Wolves,” often ranked among the greatest movies ever made, was Kevin Costner’s directorial masterpiece that solidified his status as a cinematic legend. In this movie, Costner both directed and played the lead role of a Civil War officer who assimilates into a Native American Lakota tribe.

In 1990, this movie was the fourth most profitable film, raking in approximately $424.2 million globally. It also took home seven Academy Awards, with honors including the prestigious categories of Best Picture and Best Director.

Back in 2005, I found myself captivated by a profound cinematic masterpiece titled “Brokeback Mountain,” another remarkable production by Peacock. In this film, Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal brought their characters to life, playing the roles of two rugged cowboys who kindled a deep romance as they pitched camp for the summer season.

Back in the day, I found myself utterly captivated by this timeless romance flick that’s now regarded as a classic. However, at the time of its release, it was quite divisive when it came to awards consideration. Surprisingly, even though it bagged the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, it notoriously missed out on the top prize – Best Picture, which went to Crash instead.
