As a child of the ’80s, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia with every update for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The addition of Mona Lisa and Mondo Gecko, two characters from my childhood cartoon memories, is like a dream come true. I remember staying up late to watch their adventures on Saturday mornings, and now they’re back, ready to kick some shell in this fantastic throwback beat-em-up!
Approximately two years have passed since Dotemu unveiled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, a throwback to Konami’s classic arcade TMNT games. Now, the developers are releasing the game’s newest DLC, Radical Reptiles, featuring two beloved characters from the franchise’s history: Mona Lisa and Mondo Gecko.
One way to rephrase that in a more natural and easy-to-read manner is: The Mona Lisa was a character introduced in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) animated series when it debuted in 1987. She used to be human, but after being exposed to a nuclear reactor, she transformed into a mutant salamander. In this animated universe, Mondo Gecko was originally just a gecko who underwent mutation and took on a humanoid shape. At first, he sided with the villainous Mr. X, but eventually turned over a new leaf and became allies with the TMNT.
The game will soon feature an upgraded soundtrack, remixed by artists including Tomoya Tomita, Keiji Yamagishi, Jake Kaufman, Sean Bialo, Anamanaguchi, and Button Masher. This refreshed music can be enjoyed by everyone as it comes as a complimentary update for all players.
