Twitch has unveiled fresh regulations which will curb ad displays on streams containing specific content breaches. This move could affect the earnings from advertisements for these channels.
For quite some time now, ads have served as a significant income source for Twitch broadcasters, reducing their dependence on subscriptions from their audience members.
Broadcasters can opt for built-in advertisements (preroll) that automatically play during the live broadcast, or schedule their own advertising segments during pauses in the broadcast.
On April 2nd, Wednesday, Twitch unveiled revised advertising-compatible content policies. These modifications affect the manner ads are displayed on channels according to their content and any applicable enforcement actions.
Twitch will now limit ads on some streams
Twitch mentioned that some actions taken on my content or account might impact my ad-running capabilities,” I realized, scrolling through updates on X.
From now on, streamers who have previously had their accounts suspended due to certain infractions like hate speech, gambling, violent or sexual content, and nudity will be subject to new restrictions.
Twitch informs its users that any potential ad limitations will be communicated via email and the Appeals section on their website. Yet, it remains unclear whether these restrictions will eventually cease after a specified duration or if they’ll be ongoing once implemented.
In 2021, Twitch introduced the Pools, Hot Tubs, & Beaches category. Later, they permitted advertisers to opt out of displaying their ads in the swimwear-focused streaming category. This option was subsequently made available across all categories on the platform.
For the first time, Twitch is implementing a new policy where ad limitations on a channel are triggered due to account suspensions.
In addition to updating their ads, the company owned by Amazon also unveiled modifications to the video feed section of their mobile app and introduced a TikTok-style subfeed option for the mobile Live Feed. Now, users have the ability to select various categories, such as VTubers, allowing them to view only live streams within that chosen category.
Additionally, it made the sponsorship feature accessible globally, simplifying the process for users to secure offers from renowned brands more effortlessly than previously possible.
