Twitch’s Game-Changing Update: Instant Monetization for All Streamers!

In a public statement, Twitch’s CEO, Dan Clancy, revealed some significant updates planned for the streaming service, such as enabling monetization for most broadcasters’ channels right from their launch.

Among online streaming services, Twitch has long been a front-runner; however, as other platforms discover innovative methods to capture attention, they’ve started to outshine Twitch in the broadcasting arena.

To illustrate, Kick’s subscription model provides a 95/5 revenue split across all creator channels, regardless of when the channels were launched or their streaming frequency.

Until recently, Twitch had been quite stringent regarding its monetization guidelines, insisting that streamers first obtain the status of Affiliates before they could earn money from their content.

To achieve Affiliate status, streamers must hit certain benchmarks on their channels, such as:

1. Gathering a minimum of 50 followers.
2. Streaming for a total of eight hours.
3. Broadcasting on at least seven unique days.
4. Maintaining an average of three concurrent viewers during their streams.

Twitch announces big changes to channel monetization requirements

2025 marks a shift for Twitch, as per the open letter penned by Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, which highlights several significant updates planned for the platform on February 27th.

Starting immediately when streamers launch their channels, Twitch will make subscription and bit services accessible for the majority, in contrast to requiring Affiliate or Partner status to unlock these features previously.

Clancy suggested that you can utilize our monetization resources, regardless if you’re launching your community or already established on Twitch.

In the year 2025, we are looking forward to making our monetization options – subscriptions and donations known as ‘bits’ – accessible for the majority of live streamers right from the start. This means that creators, irrespective of their current standing, will be able to expand their communities and begin generating income through direct fan support from day one.

Among the major updates Twitch is planning, streamers will be given the opportunity to utilize their income for in-platform purchases, marking another change in the platform.

This latest development comes as Twitch undergoes significant changes in its policies, having announced that it will revise its approach to banning broadcasters, potentially allowing permanently banned accounts to be reactivated.
