In such situations, resourcefulness knows no bounds as individuals find more and more ingenious ways to bypass being locked out.

On May 18, 2025, during a live stream on Twitch, one streamer discovered a particularly clever method of regaining access to his bedroom after inadvertently locking himself out.

Streamer broadcasts 8-hour attempt to unlock his room

During a live stream of Fallout 4, ERBY had to step away briefly. Intrigued viewers got an unexpected peek when he switched his broadcast to his smartphone, revealing that he’d accidentally locked himself out of his room.

He questioned his device sorrowfully, shaking it without success. “It seems to have locked automatically,” was the response.

Eager to bypass the need for a locksmith, I embarked on an inventive quest to regain entry without outside help. I tried my hand at various methods, from attempting to pick the lock with a bobby pin, to using a flathead screwdriver, a rubber band and even paperclips, hoping one would work.

People offered suggestions to assist him, but ultimately, he managed to regain entry by slipping a section of a plastic water bottle between the lock and the doorframe, which worked effectively.

The whole ordeal lasted approximately eight tough hours, which the streamer said he considered a test of his resilience, given his persistent character.

He stated on Reddit that he was determined to accomplish it. He saw it as a hurdle he had to conquer, chuckling about it. For nearly four hours, people urged him to use the bottle. Eventually, he dozed off in his car for roughly two hours. Upon waking up, he exclaimed, ‘Forget it!’ and proceeded to search for the bottle.

On numerous occasions, live streamers have found themselves in tricky situations mid-broadcast. For instance, in 2024, the Kick streamer ‘Mike Smalls Jr’ endeavored to capture footage outdoors during Hurricane Helene. However, he soon came to regret his choice as he narrowly escaped death due to powerful winds and flooding.
