Twitch is receiving positive feedback for its recent trial, where they’re exploring a novel approach to advertisements. This innovation displays ads within a small video-in-video window, keeping the primary stream undisturbed and clear.
While Twitch reigns supreme in the streaming market, it’s important to note that it’s continually evolving. Competitors such as Kick and YouTube are making significant strides, intensifying the competition.
Occasionally, Twitch has been lagging behind, adopting popular user-preferred features from other platforms like Live Rewind, as per reports. However, there’s news about another potential update on the horizon that might enhance the overall watching experience for all users.
According to reporter Zach Bussey’s initial report, Twitch is experimenting with a picture-in-picture advertising format that maintains the main broadcast as the primary focus while muting video ads automatically. This test has garnered widespread praise, with many users commending Twitch for this significant step forward.

Twitch users heap praise on new advertising method
During RottenPapi’s live stream on May 13th (Canada), viewers were treated to a sneak peek of the latest test in operation. Interestingly, the main stream was reduced in size, making way for a smaller secondary video to appear alongside it, automatically.
As a devoted viewer, I’ve noticed that captivating video advertisements reside in a tucked-away part of my viewing screen. By default, these ads are muted, but with just a simple hover of my cursor or a gentle touch on the side of my mobile device, I can unlock the audio and immerse myself in the ad’s story.
At the moment, there’s no definite timeline for when the full rollout of this feature will occur for all streamers, but considering some other recent updates have been delayed, it might not be too far off. TwitchCon Rotterdam is scheduled to begin on May 31, 2025, and historically, these events are where we learn about platform updates, so it’s possible that we’ll hear about new changes there.

It’s evident that one point is already agreed upon, and that’s the audience’s positive response to the fresh advertising approach. Instead of dominating the primary feed, this picture-in-picture style has predominantly received acclaim as a more preferred choice, often referred to as an “improved” or “superior” option.
One person commented, “This appears to be an excellent compromise that encourages streamers to display ads without compromising immersion or disrupting the flow, if you catch my drift.” They concluded, “It’s looking good from where I stand.
“I actually LOVE this,” another chimed in.
A significant amount of appreciation was directed towards the observation that “the audience won’t miss anything while the ad is playing,” as one person commented. Due to continuous action, this approach has been referred to as an “excellent method for creating advertisements.
