League of Legends streamer, Kirill ‘Likkrit’ Malofeyev, has filed a lawsuit against Twitch claiming an astronomical amount, far exceeding their total assets.
In early 2022, a well-known League of Legends player formerly with Virtus.Pro and M19, Likkrit, found himself banned on Twitch. This Russian broadcaster took legal action against the Amazon-controlled platform, due to the ban following sanctions imposed by the US government on his father, a Russian oligarch.
Initially, Twitch managed to have one lawsuit against them dropped. However, Malofeyev’s subsequent legal action resulted in a Russian court ruling that his rights were infringed upon due to the imposed ban on him.
According to court documents, Twitch is being penalized with a fine of 100,000 rubles for every day their account remains banned. This penalty doubles every week, leading to what the company’s representatives refer to as “unbelievably high” amounts.
Twitch counter sues Likkrit over ban and fine
As a gamer speaking casually, I’ve learned from recent legal documents, emphasized by Polygon, that the Amazon-controlled gaming platform allegedly has been hit with a fine so massive, it feels like they’ve been docked more cash than any amount of money this world could ever hold.
In my perspective as a supporter, I’d put it this way: “I firmly believe that the penalty imposed on Malofeyev’s account is unwarranted under any reasonable standard, and it greatly exceeds the minimal income generated by his account during its active period, which was less than $2,000, according to our legal team’s filing.
They are additionally filing a cross-lawsuit against Malofeyev’s ruling from the Russian courts, attempting to prevent the judgment in the U.S. courts because it “threatens” the current sanctions. They’re also advocating for mediation between the two parties.

Furthermore, the lawsuit initiated by Konstantin Malofeyev on behalf of his son alleges that they were penalized due to their involvement in a “global system designed to circumvent sanctions and exert harmful influence.
On Twitch, they typically don’t discuss ban reasons openly, instead choosing to share them directly with the affected streamers. For viewers of suspended channels, a common message about violations of community guidelines is displayed publicly.

Under the latest update, the Amazon-controlled platform is permitting certain minor infractions to lapse without penalty. Additionally, it will provide footage indicating the precise location where the violation occurred.
KICK, arguably Twitch’s biggest rival, has taken credit for those changes too.
