Twitch ad revenue at “all-time low” as top streamers use KICK too

Based on reports from streamers Knut and Mizkif, it seems that Twitch’s ad revenue has hit a record low. To help bridge this gap, Knut resorts to using an alternative platform like KICK.

Content creators who are successful often find income from various sources, with most live streamers primarily relying on Twitch subscriptions and advertising revenue. However, these income streams tend to have their ups and downs, leading to some unpredictable lean months for the creators.

Previously, we’ve observed similar situations, such as YouTube’s ‘adpocalypse’ back in 2017, where advertisers preferred to move towards content suitable for all audiences. This trend resurfaced in 2019, with big names like Disney, Epic Games, and Nestle withdrawing their ads from the site for an extended period of time.

Over the past few months, several prominent corporations are said to have discontinued their association with Twitch. Chevron, for instance, has withdrawn its advertisements and released a statement criticizing offensive remarks that surfaced during a TwitchCon discussion.

Knut & Mizkif record “all-time low” ad revenue on Twitch

Certain streamers have expressed concern over a potential “ad apocalypse” on the Amazon-owned platform, with revenues from advertisers hitting record lows for certain streamers, as per Knut’s observation.

The Norwegian streamer commented, “Our ad revenue is at a record low, but it’s not completely gone. I should clarify that the graph might be slightly overstated; it’s not as bad as it looks on paper. The decline isn’t a 10% reduction, but it’s definitely decreasing.

Yesterday, I discussed the matter with Mizkif too, and he mentioned that when he checked his dashboard, his current ad revenue was disappointing in comparison to earlier figures. However, it’s reassuring that we also have KICK available to support us.

Knut and Mizkif share news about Twitch’s ad income hitting a record low. In response, Knut is expanding his streaming activities across various platforms like Kick.

Currently, both Twitch and KICK offer the capability to stream content across multiple platforms simultaneously. Yet, this feature comes with a potential reduction of up to 50% in the earnings you could receive from the platforms supported by Stake.

Another point to consider is the challenge of dispersing your community among various sites. Leaving one particular platform could potentially result in a decrease in viewers, which might also mean a loss of income due to reduced audience interaction.
