As a seasoned esports enthusiast with years of gaming under my belt, I must say, the opening matches of the Perfect World Shanghai Major American RMR have certainly served up a surprise or two! The losses of FURIA and Team Liquid to Legacy and Wildcard Gaming respectively were unexpected, to say the least.

In the initial matches of the Shanghai Major American RMR, there were surprising outcomes – FURIA was defeated by Legacy, and Team Liquid suffered a loss against Wildcard Gaming. It seems that during the CS2 match between Team Liquid and Wildcard Gaming, their Canadian in-game leader encountered some technical difficulties, and he’s not pleased with the food arrangements at the event.

In a thrilling turn of events, Wildcard Gaming triumphed over Team Liquid with a final tally of 16-12. The stellar play of Roland “ultimate” Tomkowiak and Justin “jks” Savage for Team Liquid was not enough to secure the victory, as the standout performance came from Wildcard Gaming’s Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek. This South African player has made me incredibly proud with his impressive display at the top of the scoreboard!

After our tough loss against Wildcard Gaming, I, as a diehard fan of Team Liquid and their IGL, Russell “Twistzz” Van Dulken, can’t help but express my thoughts. He believes that during the pre-match setup, an admin may have tampered with his mouse, possibly contributing to our defeat.

Gg wildcard, should have had that one.

I’m convinced an admin broke my mouse prior to the game 😢

Twistzz further explained in follow-up tweets that:

Prior to starting the game, I encountered some problems and decided to troubleshoot them by transferring my setup to another computer to install drivers. While the drivers were being updated, they kept unplugging and plugging mice. The experience felt different compared to before, but I remained focused on the game, hoping not to create additional technical difficulties.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, there were more hurdles for Twistzz than just the technical glitches so far. Our team’s In-Game Leader (IGL) even voiced his discontent about the food situation. Seems like the catering service barely had any vegetarian options available and to make things worse, they kept labeling dishes incorrectly.

This is a personal issue as well that has been reported but nothing changed. Almost zero vegetarian options given for player catering. They are mislabeling the food as well, so you can never tell until you search through the food. Day 3 of this is incredibly frustrating. Serves as an early heads up for the EU teams that will come here unless they fix it before.

Keep in mind that the Shanghai Major American RMR follows a 16-Team Swiss System Format, where elimination and advancement matches are best-of-three (BO3), and all other matches are BO1. The tournament organizers use the Buchholz system for matchups from Round 3 to Round 5.

The best seven squads advance to the Perfect World Shanghai Major, while the remaining nine are eliminated. Although their initial defeat doesn’t signify total elimination, Teams Liquid and FURIA find themselves playing catch-up as they strive to secure a place in the main competition.
