‘Twisters’ Cut a Kiss Between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones Cut Due to Steven Spielberg’s Advice; Powell Explains Why ‘It’s a Good Spielberg Note’

As a movie lover with a deep appreciation for both classic and modern films, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment over the missing kiss scene in “Twisters.” Having grown up watching Steven Spielberg’s productions, I’ve come to expect a certain level of depth and nuance in his projects. The viral set footage of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell sharing a passionate kiss during filming had me excited for a potential romantic arc in the movie.

“The ‘Twisters’ movie generated an impressive $80.5 million at the domestic box office upon its release. However, a significant topic of discussion on social media surrounding this film has been about a scene that didn’t appear in the final version. Previews of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell filming a passionate kiss during a pivotal moment in the movie became widely popular online prior to ‘Twisters’ premiere. Sadly, viewers were disappointed to discover that this scene was absent from the cinematic version.”

Edgar-Jones explained to Collider that executive producer Steven Spielberg made the decision to exclude the kiss from the film, remarking, “I believe it keeps the movie from feeling overly clichéd. It leaves room for the idea that this isn’t the conclusion of their story. Instead, their connection is driven by a mutual enthusiasm for something they share.”

In the same interview, Powell expressed his agreement that the film isn’t primarily about the characters falling in love. Instead, it’s more about Kate being drawn back to her beloved hobby of chasing storms. By the end of the movie, they have a shared experience, which rekindles Kate’s passion and makes her feel at home once again.

After pondering over it, Powell expressed, “A kiss seemed out of place and inappropriate as an ending to the film. Spielberg’s touch was evident there. That’s why the boy remained engaged in the story – it was fascinating.”

Steven Spielberg, through his production company Amblin, oversaw the making of “Twisters.” Amblin had previously produced the original “Twister” film in 1996. This new movie, marketed as a standalone sequel, takes place in the same world but introduces new characters. Lee Isaac Chung, who was nominated for an Oscar for “Minari,” helmed its direction.

The domestic box office for “Twisters” reached a total of $80.5 million this weekend. Simultaneously, the movie raked in an additional $27.1 million from 76 international territories. In summary, “Twisters” has earned a global revenue of $123.2 million so far. The film features co-stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, and Sasha Lane.

“Twisters” is now playing in theaters nationwide.
