‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’ Director Calls David Zaslav the ‘Slayer of All Cinema’ For Putting the ‘Final Nail in the Coffin’ For ‘T & D’ Spinoff Series: ‘Just Cancelled All Production’

As a die-hard fan, I can certainly empathize with director Eli Craig’s challenges in crafting a sequel to the iconic 2010 film “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.” It hasn’t been an effortless task for him, that much is clear.

As a passionate cinephile, I recently had a heart-to-heart chat with Craig over at SlashFilm, and he opened up about his repeated efforts to bring a sequel to life. However, each attempt, for one reason or another, has yet to see the light of day on the silver screen.

Craig remarked, ‘To be honest, there’s been more false starts with ‘Tucker & Dale 2′ than the number of students who meet their end in the original film.’ We’ve seen numerous attempts that either barely got off the ground or were halted for various reasons. It’s frustrating because people should check the actual box office earnings of the movie instead of relying on rumors.’

Despite earning just $223,838 domestically, the movie “Tucker & Dale” managed to rake in a total of $5.24 million globally.

Craig explained that it’s been tough going from the start, and even when everything seems to be falling into place, something unexpected happens and derails our plans. We almost had a TV show based on it airing on TNT/TBS, but unfortunately, David Zaslav, known as the executioner of cinema [laughs], stepped in just as we were ready to start production for ‘Tucker & Dale’, and canceled everything.

Craig elaborated on the concept of a hypothetical spinoff series, emphasizing that it’s no longer an option. He described how the show would focus on Tucker and Dale as detectives, constantly struggling to solve mysteries in a world where they consistently fail and tragedy ensues around them.
