TrustNordisk Deals 4K Remaster of Nicolas Winding Refn’s ‘Pusher’ Trilogy in Key Territories (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile with decades of movie-watching under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of the 4K remastered version of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Pusher” trilogy is nothing short of a cinematic event. Having first seen these films in their original release, I remember being captivated by their raw intensity and the mesmerizing performances, particularly that of Mads Mikkelsen, who was just starting to make a name for himself.

TrustNordisk has finalized multiple distribution agreements for a 4K restored edition of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Pusher” trilogy, which consists of “Pusher,” “Pusher II – Bearing Blood on My Hands,” and “Pusher III – I Am the Angel of Death.”

Deals for distributing the movie have been finalized in Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg) with September Film Rights, Switzerland with Praesens Film, Germany with Plaion, and Japan with Synca Creations. Additionally, Movies Inspired (Italy) and Blue Finch Film (U.K.) have been signed to distribute the film in their respective territories as well.

The three movies directed by Nicolas Winding Refn from 1996 to 2005 have gone through extensive restoration, with the initial one, “Pusher,” making its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Venice Classics section, where it competed. These films not only marked the beginning of Refn’s successful career, but the first two also played a significant role in launching the acting career of Mads Mikkelsen, who has worked with Refn multiple times since then.

In “Pusher,” a minor drug peddler named Frank finds himself in the midst of a terrible seven days following an unfortunate heroin transaction that lands him in massive debt to the cold-blooded Serbian narcotics kingpin, Milo. Throughout this week, Frank resorts to extreme measures to clear his debt as Milo relentlessly tightens the noose around him. However, nothing seems to go according to plan for Frank, and he is left with no choice but to confront the repercussions of his own actions.

“Speaking about the initial installment of his trilogy, Refn stated that he made the movie with the unbridled confidence of youth when it was selected for a remaster at Venice.”

The three films underwent restoration in partnership with NWR, TrustNordisk, and Nordisk Film Distribution, utilizing original 16mm camera negatives that were scanned at 4K resolution. A fresh conform/online edit was done, incorporating updated graphics, while the overall visual quality was meticulously restored under the supervision of cinematographer Morten Søborg and director Nicolas Winding Refn. Furthermore, a brand-new sound mix has been crafted, offering Atmos audio for improved listening experience.
