Trump Says He’s ‘Honored’ to Be Suing ‘60 Minutes’ and CBS in Latest Truth Social Rant, Urges FCC to ‘Impose Maximum Fines and Punishment’

In a recent post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump criticized “60 Minutes” and CBS for a second time, this being connected to his ongoing 20 billion dollar lawsuit regarding a pre-election interview they conducted with Vice President Kamala Harris before the elections.

On Sunday evening, Trump voiced criticism towards the recent “60 Minutes” broadcast, which included an interview with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and a segment focusing on Trump’s desire to obtain Greenland.

Every week, 60 Minutes, a program currently facing billions of dollars in lawsuits due to alleged fraud during the 2024 Presidential Election following their interview with Kamala Harris who was a failed presidential candidate, has been using disrespectful and damaging language regarding ‘TRUMP’. However, this weekend’s broadcast surpasses all others in this regard. Trump took to Truth Social to argue that if the 2020 election hadn’t been rigged, the war in Ukraine wouldn’t be taking place, and he claimed that a story about Greenland gave a false, misleading, and fraudulent portrayal of our country under his leadership.

He went on to say: “It’s such an honor for me to take legal action against 60 Minutes, CBS, the False News Network, and Paramount, due to their deceptive and drastically distorted reporting.

60 Minutes and their CBS representatives didn’t promptly give a response to EbMaster’s query for a statement.

Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS (a company owned by Paramount) just days prior to the November elections, accusing them of manipulating an interview with Kamala Harris on “60 Minutes” and violating a consumer protection law in Texas. He later broadened the lawsuit this year, adding another claim under the federal Lanham Act and demanding at least $20 billion in damages. In March, Paramount and CBS submitted two petitions to dismiss the lawsuit, labeling it an infringement on the First Amendment rights. On April 7th, their legal team filed another petition asking the defendants to disclose the requested documents during discovery.

Though the Defendants repeatedly emphasize the need for progress in the case, they’ve demonstrated a minimal eagerness to provide their own records,” stated the legal team from Paramount and CBS. They seem more inclined to raise unsubstantiated objections and employ delaying strategies instead.

Recently, it emerged that lawyers for Paramount Global and Donald Trump have chosen a mediator to work towards resolving their ongoing lawsuit. Simultaneously, Paramount is waiting for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to approve its proposed merger with Skydance Media. The FCC’s commissioner appointed by Trump, Brendan Carr, mentioned that the “60 Minutes” case would be a factor in assessing the merger proposal.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that a representative from Paramount Global has stated that Donald Trump’s “60 Minutes” lawsuit is not linked in any way to the Skydance transaction or the FCC approval process. They intend to follow due process and defend their position within the legal system.

On Truth Social, Trump expressed his desire for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to levy the maximum fines and penalties, which are considerable, against CBS for their unlawful and illegal conduct. He believes CBS has gone beyond acceptable limits, more than ever before, and they should face significant consequences for this.

In response to criticism over his decision to impose high tariffs on items imported from various countries, including as much as 145% on goods from China, Trump’s outburst occurred. While the president maintains that these tariffs will safeguard American jobs and stimulate manufacturing, they have instead caused a global economic downturn.
