Trump claims a “group of very wealthy people” is lined up to buy TikTok’s US operations, but he hasn’t revealed who they are

In January 2025, TikTok was temporarily prohibited in the U.S., allowing ByteDance, its parent company, extra time to divest its American operations. The new deadline for this sale is now set for mid-September. President Donald Trump recently announced that a potential buyer has been found – a “group of extremely wealthy individuals” – though he has not revealed their identities as of yet.

TikTok’s future in the US is close to resolution

I’ve been keeping up with this situation for some time now, and it all started back in 2020 during Trump’s initial term when he issued an executive order to potentially ban TikTok within the U.S., unless we found an American company to buy us out. We attempted to negotiate a deal with Oracle and Walmart to establish “TikTok Global,” but that plan never truly materialized. Legal disputes managed to postpone the ban for quite a while.

The pressing matter stems from the potential need for ByteDance to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations due to a 2024 U.S. law concerning national security issues. It appears that this long-running dispute may be nearing its end.

On June 29, 2025, I was thrilled to learn as a fan that President Trump shared exciting news during a Fox News interview. (Reauters posted a clip of the video) He announced that a buyer for TikTok’s US operations had been found and was awaiting China’s approval. However, when inquired about the identity of the buyer, he playfully replied: “I’ll be spilling the beans on that in about two weeks.

Although specifics are yet unclear, progress appears to be happening. With fresh taxes on imported items, Trump’s proposal of a 25% tax on iPhones unless production shifts to the U.S., and now the TikTok deal, it’s clear that we can expect significant transformations in the coming years.
