Two years following TopMob’s initial ride on Walt Disney World’s Tron Lightcycle Ride, it remains popular. Given my excitement for the upcoming film Tron: Ares, and after catching glimpses of Jared Leto riding the attraction in trailers, I couldn’t resist giving it a go during my recent visit to Magic Kingdom.
During my time at Super Nintendo World within Epic Universe, nothing could surpass the entire day I had there. However, the Tron Lightcycle Run was a close second on my list of highlights for a weekend in Orlando. The thrill of fulfilling my long-held dream to ride a lightcycle, sparked by watching Tron: Legacy in IMAX, was indescribable. Yet, there are some points about the overall experience that I believe warrant mentioning, as they underscore some significant concerns with this attraction.
Tron Lightcycle Run Is A Brutal Uphill Walk
As a cinema enthusiast, I always find myself pondering queue lines before anything else when exploring rides. You see, they consume about 95% of your time, after all. On my recent journey uphill towards the premium lightning lane, my gaze was steadfastly fixed on the scene unfolding there. I couldn’t help but glance occasionally as I laboriously climbed the hill, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down my forehead – June in Florida is notorious for being an unforgiving heat, and only those who call it home can truly endure it, knowing that it houses the most magical destination on Earth.
I’m nearly halfway up this steep hike and feeling like we must be getting close, but there’s still more ground to cover. The truth is, after a full day of exploring Magic Kingdom, my tired feet may have influenced my judgement, but it certainly felt like we were ascending to the highest point in the region.
The advantage of trekking uphill for such a long time to get to Tron Lightcycle Run is that upon reaching the line, you’ll find a restroom and water station nearby. If I had known this earlier, I would have brought my water bottle with me, as it was left in the stroller at the foot of the hill. This happened weeks ago, but the memory remains vivid. I’m merely suggesting that riders mentally prepare for this before hopping on, as Disney can’t change the situation.

The Ride Is Egregiously Short
The Tron Lightcycle Run attraction includes hidden references to the films, which might escape your attention if you’re not looking closely. Despite its brevity, it’s a fact that the ride is brief, and some may be aware of this beforehand, but the reality doesn’t truly set in until you find yourself waiting for an extended period in the queue with little choice but to stay put. I personally didn’t observe this myself because I was using the priority lane, so my wait time was reduced and I didn’t need to stream The Simpsons on Disney+ while I waited for my turn on the ride.
The entire duration of Tron Lightcycle Run is merely a minute. Despite being an exhilarating rollercoaster that swiftly reaches high speeds, the brief time spent on it means the initial climb and queueing become significant aspects of the experience. This realization underscores the intensity of the Lightcycle battles and the dexterity required to avoid crashing right away when operating one.
In essence, let me rephrase that for you: When deciding how long to wait in line for a ride, don’t forget to factor in the actual ride time. Even though Space Mountain is one of the few thrilling rides in Magic Kingdom and there aren’t many new ones planned, it’s essential to plan your day effectively to avoid wasting too much time standing in line for a brief ride.

There Should Really Be A Tutorial On The Safety Harness System
As a thrill-seeker, I must say that Tron Lightcycle Run is an extraordinary, heart-pounding adventure like no other in my roller coaster journey. However, there’s a unique skill to master before embarking on this exhilarating ride – learning how to secure the safety harness when it’s your turn to board. Considering the time spent waiting for the ride and its swift pace, this is crucial information for fellow riders to keep in mind.

I’m Concerned About The Next Few Years At Disney World, Especially Animal Kingdom And Magic Kingdom
For first-time riders, you simply step over the lightcycle, then slide your legs into the grooves on either side of the bike. Subsequently, you’re advised to push forward on the handlebars, causing the back harness to descend and securely fasten for the duration of the ride. It can be tricky to manage at first, but if done incorrectly, it may lead to an unpleasant experience.
Let me illustrate using my brother-in-law as an example. He exerted maximum effort during the pedaling process, ultimately sticking to the bike with no space to move any higher. Luckily, I observed this incident and decided to lighten my pedal pressure slightly while also leaning slightly forward without fully aligning myself with the bike like he did. This approach proved beneficial as the harness was fastened securely, and I didn’t experience excessive discomfort during the ride.
It’s crucial we nail this part, as the dismount from Tron Lightcycle Run was longer than the ride itself. Personally, I didn’t encounter any problems with my seating position, but my companion who sat behind us felt hip discomfort the day after riding. While it wasn’t unbearable enough to deter him from trying it again, I merely want to emphasize the significance of determining your seating arrangement before you’re secured, as you only get one shot at it!
Based on my personal account, I encourage you to use this information as a guide for your own adventure, ensuring an enjoyable experience on the Tron Lightcycle Run. If your plans include a visit to Disney World soon, you’ll find it in Magic Kingdom within the district of Tomorrowland, taking the place of the former Tomorrowland Speedway.
