“Tron” is back, more than 40 years after the original sci-fi movie hit theaters.
Disney unveiled a sneak peek of “Tron: Ares,” the upcoming third installment in the “Tron” series, following the 1982 debut and its sequel “Tron: Legacy” from 2010.
Jared Leto heads this movie, where Jeff Bridges reprises his role as Kevin Flynn. Leto portrays Ares, a digital universe character assigned to cross into our reality. The ensemble also features Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Interestingly, Peters takes on the role of Julian Dillinger, a character whose surname mirrors David Warner’s Ed Dillinger from the initial film, who was the antagonist.
The sneak peek revealed some fresh characters and additional thrilling lightcycle scenes. Despite Kevin Flynn not making an appearance, his voice echoes at the trailer’s end. As Jared Leto’s Ares materializes, Flynn advises him, “Are you prepared? Because there’s no turning back now.
“On stage at the 2024 D23 Expo, Bridges marveled when ‘Tron: Ares’ was revealed, saying it was hard to believe we created the original back in 1982. It’s astounding – we never imagined our creation would have such a lasting impact that carried on for decades.”
At D23, it was disclosed that Nine Inch Nails, the band comprising industrial rock and electronica founded by Trent Reznor, with Atticus Ross joining in 2016 as a regular collaborator, will be responsible for the film’s score. Reznor and Ross have garnered Oscars for their scores on “The Social Network” from 2010 and “Soul” from 2020. They also took home Grammys for their soundtracks of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and “Soul.” Their latest project was scoring Luca Guadagnino’s successful tennis film, “Challengers.
