Tribeca Becomes First Festival to License Streaming Deals With Kanopy and Kinema — Film News

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for independent cinema and animation, these latest announcements have certainly piqued my interest! The partnership between Tribeca Films, Kanopy, and Kinema is an exciting development that promises to bring some of the most captivating indie films straight to our screens. The fact that this is the first festival to license films with both platforms makes it even more intriguing.

In a new collaboration, Tribeca Films teams up with streaming platforms Kanopy and Kinema to broadcast their collection of independent movies that were showcased at prominent film festivals. This partnership marks Tribeca as the initial festival to distribute films through Kanopy and Kinema.

Under the deal with Kanopy, the initial movie lineup offers: “Good Girl Jane,” winner of the Best Narrative award at the 2022 Tribeca Festival; “Mary Heilmann: Waves, Roads, & Hallucinations”; “A Bronx Tale”; “In Her Name”, and more. Additional titles are now accessible on Kinema, featuring popular choices such as “Listen Up Philip” and “My Awkward Sexual Adventure.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve found two unique platforms that cater to my love for cinema: Kanopy and Kinema. Kanopy is an amazing educational library where they collaborate with public libraries and universities to offer a vast collection of films without charging any fees or interrupting the viewing experience with commercials. On the other hand, Kinema is a direct-to-consumer platform that brings live screenings right to me, either in person or on demand through virtual showings. They operate using a “Pay What You Wish” model, allowing me to decide what I believe the content is worth.
