Translucent fried chicken wing gives Crystal Pepsi a run for its money

A food blogger has invented a unique fried chicken recipe that makes the wings look clear! It’s a surprisingly beautiful – and strange – dish.

Have you ever imagined KFC chicken looking like glass, but still tasting and crunching like you expect? Probably not! But one chef recently decided to make that unusual idea a reality, creating a surprisingly innovative food experience.

Cai Nan, a food blogger famous for his unusual recipes, is currently gaining a lot of attention online for his incredibly thin fried chicken wings.

Transparent fried chicken wing, anyone?

On March 25th, a content creator posted a video about trying to make clear fried chicken – and the results were definitely unusual, just as the title promised.

In the video, the popular chef demonstrates how to transform chicken – including the meat, bone, and skin – into clear, see-through versions of themselves.

Cai Nan started by creating the bone. He used a blend of bone marrow, collagen, and a cold gel, pouring it into chicken bone-shaped molds and allowing it to solidify. Once the bones were complete, he began working on the meat.

This is where the process gets a bit more high-tech. Scientists use specialized equipment to break down the chicken into a liquid form – almost like a flavorful, watery base. Think of it as capturing the pure taste of the wing, without any of the texture.

The chef carefully separated the flavorful liquid from the poultry and then used a process called spherification to reshape it, creating a texture similar to muscle fibers. Although it might sound like something from a science experiment, this technique is actually a common practice in molecular gastronomy for turning liquids into gel-like forms.

This process lets Cai Nan keep the natural taste of the chicken and rebuild its shape, giving it a fresh, see-through appearance. The resulting meat and bone, which resemble glass, are then molded until they harden into a solid form that mimics a real wing.

Things took a really strange turn when the chef managed to perfectly copy the crispy coating of fried chicken. Cai Nan explains the details in the video linked above – it’s a bit complicated – but the result is a completely see-through chicken wing that looks more like a sculpture than something you’d eat.

Everyone is excited about the new transparent hot wings, but a driver going over 135 mph had a particularly unusual excuse – they blamed their fast driving on wanting to get their Chinese takeout home quickly!
