As a lifelong Transformers fan who grew up with the original series and movies, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming Transformers One. The prospect of witnessing the origin stories of Optimus Prime and Megatron, voiced by none other than Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry, is simply mind-blowing!
The upcoming Transformers film is just about a month from its theater release, marking the first animated Transformers movie in theaters since 1986. Stars like Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, Scarlett Johansson, and others lend their voices to the legendary characters. In this new movie, Hemsworth and Henry voice Orion Pax and D-16, roles that will eventually become Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively.
Paramount shared a brief behind-the-scenes video featuring the actors discussing their characters and the significant distinctions between these roles and previous portrayals.
In Hemsworth’s words, “What really caught my interest was learning about his backstory, and getting to voice Optimus Prime takes things up another notch. Originally, he’s Orion Pax, a mine worker who transforms into the mighty, wise Optimus Prime. This movie boasts an amazing cast…and it was truly enjoyable.” Both Hemsworth and Henry agree that the story primarily focuses on the development and eventual rift in their characters’ relationship.
In the past films, I found myself relating Bumblebee to a silent movie icon, but this time around, it’s thrilling to bring his character to life through giving him a voice. So here we are, lending him the power of speech!
In their appreciation, both Key and Henry laud Johansson for embodying Elita-1 with grit and strength. Transformers enthusiasts may recognize Elita, or Flareup, as the elder sibling to Arcee and Chromia. The production also features Jon Hamm portraying Sentinel Prime and Lawrence Fishburne in the role of Alpha Trion.
Transformers One arrives in theaters on September 20.
