As a long-time admirer of the Trailer Park Boys franchise, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon learning about “Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story.” The prospect of seeing Bubbles, Ricky, Julian, and Randy in a new cinematic adventure is truly enticing.
Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Canada have acquired the digital and cinema distribution rights in North America for the comedy “Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Tale of Bubbles and the Shitrockers.
The upcoming film stars Mike Smith as Bubbles, Robb Wells as Ricky, John Paul Tremblay as Julian, and Patrick Roach as Randy. This movie is a spin-off of the widely recognized and long-running Canadian television series “Trailer Park Boys.” With 12 seasons currently streaming on Netflix, fans can revisit this beloved show. Blue Fox Entertainment intends to distribute the film in theaters across the country; however, specific release dates have not been disclosed as of yet.
The movie additionally includes notable guest stars like Billy Bob Thornton known for his role in “Bad Santa”, the Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ronnie Wood, Martin Freeman who is a cast member of “Sherlock”, and Robert Sheehan, a former actor on “The Umbrella Academy”.
The movie titled ‘Standing on the Giants’ Shoulders: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Saga’, penned by Smith and helmed by Charlie Lightening, who is famous for ‘Liam Gallagher: As It Was’, was brought to life. Behind the scenes, Smith, Wells, Tremblay, Lewin Webb, Jamie Brown, and Gary Howsam took on the producer roles. This production was a joint effort between Canada and the U.K.
The film chronicles Bubbles and his musical group, The Shitrockers, as they embark on a European rock tour with the aim of performing alongside Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters. However, after journeying from Nova Scotia to Prague, they are dismissed from the tour and are forced to busk in order to sustain themselves and find their way back home. It falls upon Ricky and Julian to devise a plan to realize their aspirations once more – if that’s even an option anymore.
In reality, Smith is the lead of the band Bubbles and the Shitrockers, who are set to launch a 14-track album on both Spotify and Apple Music. They also plan a genuine tour spanning across the United States and Europe, with stops featuring collaborations with Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.
The deal was facilitated by Ian Goggins, Dave Hudakoc, and Lisa Gutberlet representing Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Entertainment Canada, while Gary Howsam handled negotiations for the movie creators.
