As a seasoned gamer and long-time fan of Pixar’s Toy Story series, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia mixed with excitement at the prospect of Toy Story 5! With the success of Moana 2 and Tim Allen’s assurance that it’s a “very, very clever story,” I have high hopes for this upcoming installment.
While it might take some time before we see Toy Story 5, star Tim Allen hints at its promising prospects for success. He suggests that the unanticipated sequel will prove to be a worthwhile wait.
Following the impressive year-end triumph of Moana 2 by Disney, another animated film that could potentially outshine it is Toy Story 5. Although the fourth part seemed to conclude Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie’s adventures, a surprising fifth movie was unveiled as early as August during D23, hinting at its return.
The original cast is coming back for another adventure, with Tim Allen once again portraying Buzz Lightyear. However, this time around, the toys will be exploring modern technology and trying to outdo the newest tech devices in order to capture the interest of children using iPads.
The toys are facing a fresh test, yet Allen remains confident that the new tale will meet our expectations, regardless of the recent shift in circumstances.
Tim Allen says Toy Story sequel is “really good”
Allen mentioned that he recently completed a five-hour session for Buzz, approximately a week back. He described the plot as incredibly smart and intriguing. He added, ‘Would you be interested in doing five of these? I genuinely don’t think it’s about the money.’ [via Collider]
They undoubtedly aimed for success, yet their primary motivation wasn’t that factor. If the script hadn’t been exceptionally good, they wouldn’t have initiated the project and wouldn’t have contacted us – Tom [Hanks] and myself. It’s quite insightful.
Anticipate the arrival of our favorite toys as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the crew make a comeback in Toy Story 5, hitting the big screen in summer 2026! #ToyStory5 #D23

In 2022’s movie “Lightyear,” Allen didn’t reprise his role as the voice actor for the character. Instead, Chris Evans took on that role. This means it has been more than five years since Allen last provided his voice for the superhero astronaut.
He shared that it was quite challenging for him initially, but around the two-hour mark, he found himself playing Buzz. To put it frankly, he feels incredibly fortunate to be portraying Buzz Lightyear. He believes it’s going to be an enjoyable experience. At this point, they are approximately a year away from the final product. He has reached the third act, and they will work on that. Afterward, they will go back to refine it. Then, he will perform it another five times.
“It’s a really good story, guys. It’s really good.”
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share the official summary for the upcoming movie: “In Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, I find myself reunited with my beloved friends – Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the gang. This time, we’re facing an unprecedented challenge as we encounter a brand-new adversary that threatens the very essence of playtime. Buckle up, folks! It’s going to be one heck of a ride!
Toy Story 5 will be released on June 19, 2026.
