Fast forward to today, and they’re still at it, taking on new challenges and keeping us all enthralled!

Back in February 2023, I was thrilled to hear from Disney CEO Bob Iger that a sequel for one of my favorite franchises was on its way. He mentioned plans for new movies in both “Frozen” and “Zootopia,” but he kept the specifics under wraps. What I found intriguing, however, was his hint that this upcoming film wouldn’t be another spinoff like “Lightyear” with Chris Evans. Instead, it seemed we were in store for a return to the heart of the story, focusing once again on Woody and Buzz.

A couple of months following Iger’s declaration, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks were both mentioned on “The Tonight Show” as they had been approached by Disney about a possible reunion for a sequel, which they confirmed.

Despite Allen initially having reservations about producing another sequel, questioning if four movies were too many and whether five might be excessive, he later mentioned that the writer working on it penned one of the stronger installments and stated, “If I don’t get this one right, I wouldn’t do it.” This could potentially lead to a highly intriguing reunion of the series.

In 2019, “Toy Story 4” made its debut in cinemas, earning widespread praise and surpassing $1 billion globally at the box office. At that time, it held the record for the highest-grossing animated film launch, with a global opening of approximately $244.5 million. Despite initial apprehension that “Toy Story 4” might mar the fitting conclusion Pixar had crafted for the characters in the 2010 release “Toy Story 3”, which also grossed over $1 billion and won the Oscar for animated feature, fans ultimately embraced it, appreciating both its critical and commercial success.

Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” will be released in theaters on June 19, 2026.
