It seems that the developers from Hazelight studio, known for their exceptional work on co-op games like A Way Out and It Takes Two, are exploring the possibility of creating a single-player game as well in their upcoming project, Split Fiction. However, they have shown openness to venturing into the development of a standalone title in the future.
The details provided here stem directly from an interview conducted by MinnMax with Josef Fares, the CEO of Hazelight Studios. In his own words:
Collaboration will forever remain a core part of us, yet our debut title, “Brothers“, is designed for a solo player. As for the future, only time will tell what lies ahead.
Regarding the game “Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons,” which Fares developed at Starbreeze Studios in 2013, he’s talking about it. This game provided both cooperative and single-player options, suggesting that Hazelight Studio might create similar titles down the line. Interestingly, all three games from their team—”A Way Out,” “It Takes Two,” and “Split Fiction”—are designed to be played exclusively in multiplayer mode, without solo play options.
Split Fiction – more details
During the interview, Fares also revealed further information about Split Fiction.
- Finishing the game will take about 12-15 hours, similar to the case with It Takes Two.
- Split Fiction had almost twice the budget of It Takes Two.
- One of the fantasy levels allows characters to change shape. On science fiction maps, a grappling hook is always available, serving as a basic movement mechanic in these areas.
- Fares is certain that in Split Fiction, players will find things that have never appeared in games before.
- Split Fiction won’t receive any DLC after its release.
- The game will offer a Friend’s Pass feature, which allows you to invite another player to play for free. What’s important, this feature will enable crossplay, allowing us to invite someone using a different hardware platform.
- Sales of It Takes Two have exceeded 23 million copies. Notably, China accounts for half of this.
- Fares also underlined that the Hazellight studio isn’t for sale. He added that the team will not introduce any microtransactions, nor will it debut on the stock exchange. The only thing that interests these developers is making games.
The captivating title “Split Fiction” is set to arrive on Personal Computers, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. The anticipated release date for the game is March 6th of this very year.
