Fast channels, short for “Free Advertising-Supported Television,” blend the features of traditional linear TV and streaming services. You can find these channels on various streaming platforms like Roku, Pluto TV, and Amazon Prime Channels, as well as smart TVs from manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, and Sony. Unlike Netflix-style on-demand viewing, Fast channels operate more like a conventional TV channel with a 24/7 schedule of programs.
At Paramount Global, Cohen’s main purpose is to devise strategies that help the studio generate more revenue from the TV shows and films it produces. Additionally, he has been instrumental in securing partnerships with external distributors, which involves collaborating with independent producers to provide smaller entities with the advantages of a large studio’s sales and marketing resources. Cohen identified Robbins as an ideal candidate for a FAST channel due to his strong brand recognition following decades in the public eye. Robbins is renowned for filling sports arenas with his motivational speaking tours, and he has hosted numerous seminars on personal development topics over nearly five decades. Robbins possesses a vast library of video content, most of which has seldom been broadcast on traditional television.
As a movie reviewer, I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with Cohen’s perspective when it comes to launching a FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) channel. It’s crucial to have a substantial library of content, at least several hundred hours worth, to ensure the channel remains fresh and engaging for viewers.
The entertainment landscape is brimming with talented personalities, but many lack their own unique content. However, Tony stands out as an exception, boasting both his charm and a wealth of original material. Recognizing this golden opportunity, we swiftly realized that Tony’s channel could potentially reach a global audience due to his extensive fanbase.
Channel owners who run their platforms at high speed generate income through a set commission from advertising revenue they produce. In this case, Robbins will be the channel owner; Paramount will earn a distribution fee for managing distribution, promotion, and technical assistance on his behalf. The sale of ads is overseen by the respective streaming platforms. This move marks a shift for a prominent studio like Paramount, signaling the chaotic yet exciting new era of television.
Partners for the Robbins channel, such as Roku, Pluto TV (a part of Paramount Global), Amazon Prime Video, and Comcast’s Plex, are on board. With full ownership of his videos and a global audience, Robbins is an ideal fit for the FAST format. The channel aims for a summer debut.
Cohen suggests we should focus on a limited number of exceptional channels rather than aiming for 50 FAST ones. He believes these channels have the potential to stand out and yield profit within the first year.
