Tony Hawk Says He Has Been Talking To Activision Ahead Of The Pro Skater 25th Anniversary

As a longtime Tony Hawk Pro Skater (THPS) fanatic, hailing from the golden era of skateboarding games, hearing about the potential return of my beloved series feels like a dream come true! I’ve spent countless hours grinding rails, pulling off sick tricks, and mastering levels since the first game dropped back in 1999.

Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk has dropped hints about discussions with Activision, suggesting that they are planning something special for the series in celebration of its upcoming 25th anniversary.

In a recent Mythical Kitchen video, Hawk mentioned that he has been conversing with Activision once more regarding the future of the THPS (Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater) series. He couldn’t disclose much, but expressed his enthusiasm, stating it’s incredibly thrilling. They are currently working on a project that fans will undoubtedly admire.

Hawk’s comments align with a recent refresh of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater social media accounts, as these were updated with new images bearing a 2024 copyright watermark. Fans have begun speculating what this could mean, and if the anniversary will lead to the announcement of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4 remasters. Back in 2022, Hawk claimed that Vicarious Visions was working on remasters of those games before it became a support studio under Blizzard Entertainment.

At that point in time, our plan had been to proceed with THPS3 and THPS4, all the way up until the release date of this [THPS1+2]. However, Vicarous Visions got absorbed, leading them to search for other developers, and unfortunately, that was the end of it,” Hawk explained back then.

As for the future plans of Activision’s 25-year-old franchise are yet unknown, Electronic Arts (EA) is making a comeback to the skateboarding genre by developing a fresh Skate title.

The most recent significant upgrade for the game was highlighted by Tim Robinson, comedian from I Think You Should Leave and skateboard fanatic, in a quick concept. More recently, Full Circle unveiled an improved Flick-it gameplay mechanism, a fresh method for soundtracks, and numerous customization possibilities for the live-service game that’s still being developed.
