‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

As someone who has spent countless hours navigating through the treacherous terrains of various video games, I can confidently say that the renewal of “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” for Season 2 is a triumphant moment for gaming enthusiasts everywhere. Having grown up with the original “Tomb Raider” game back in 1996, it’s heartening to see the enduring legacy of this iconic character come alive in a new and exciting way.

Netflix has announced that the animated show “Tomb Raider: Chronicles of Lara Croft” will continue for another season.

Approximately two weeks ago, the series debuted on October 10th. It featured eight episodes in its first season. Hayley Atwell lends her voice to Lara Croft. Upon release, it garnered generally favorable reviews from critics, with a 73% approval rating from them on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1.

The official logline for Season 2 states:

Lara Croft, played by Atwell, stumbles upon a series of missing African Orisha masks. Alongside her trusted companion Sam (Fukuhara), she embarks on a journey to recover these priceless artifacts. As Lara uncovers more about the ancient history of Orisha, she finds herself entangled in global intrigue. A mysterious and wealthy individual is hot on their tail, seeking the masks for her own purposes. However, Lara soon realizes that these artifacts conceal dark truths and an energy beyond comprehension, a power that might even be divine.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to share that apart from Atwell and Fukuhara, the stellar voice cast of Season 1 also includes Allen Maldonado, Earl Baylon, Richard Armitage, Zoe Boyle, Roxana Ortega, and the versatile Nolan North. Each one of them brought their unique charm to the series!

The TV show is penned and overseen by Tasha Huo. Dmitri M. Johnson, founder and CEO of dj2 Entertainment, works alongside Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson (from Tractor Pants), Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes (for Crystal Dynamics), Howard Bliss, and Jen Chambers in the role of executive producers. Powerhouse Animation serves as the animation studio, with Brad Graeber acting as executive producer.

1996 saw the debut of the initial “Tomb Raider” video game, developed by Core Design and Aspyr for the Sega Saturn. By 1997, it had sold more than 2.5 million copies. As of 2024, a total of 20 “Tomb Raider” games have been launched. This popular game has also been turned into a movie franchise called “Tomb Raider,” with Angelina Jolie and later Alicia Vikander portraying the character Croft in various films.
