Tom Sizemore’s ‘American Trash’ Acquired by Deep C Digital (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie critic who has spent decades immersed in the gritty underbelly of Hollywood, I approach “American Trash” with a certain level of intrigue. The film promises to be a raw and unapologetic look at Los Angeles, a city that I’ve seen evolve from a dreamy paradise into a harsh and perilous landscape.

Deep C Digital has obtained the rights for North America for the film “American Trash,” which features one of Tom Sizemore’s last performances before his passing in 2023. At the time of his death, he had been involved in approximately 18 films that were still in different stages of post-production.

Under the title “American Trash,” director Robert LaSardo makes his first foray into filmmaking, having previously appeared in popular series like “Nip/Tuck” and “The Mule.” Notably, he both stars in and directs this project from a screenplay that he himself penned. The talented cast also features Costas Mandylor, recognized for his roles in “Picket Fences” and the “Saw” series, Lorelei Linklater, known for “Boyhood” and “Bomb City,” as well as Gigi Gustin from “Night of the Missing.”

The movie tells the story of Milles (LaSardo), a war veteran struggling with PTSD, who forms a bond with Melissa (Linklater), an ecological activist. However, their relationship takes an unexpected turn after a heartbreaking incident, leading to Detective Anderson’s (Mandylor) investigation. Simultaneously, Melissa’s sibling Mandy (Gustin) and Milles embark on separate investigations into the matter. Sizemore portrays Detective Kelly in the story.

LaSardo expressed, “My intention was to craft a movie reflecting my profound love for Los Angeles, a city I’ve come to cherish over time. Originally, a symbol of brightness and aspirations, it seemed to be transforming into something tough and precarious. I sought to convey a tale that underscores this transformation and sheds light on the truths hidden beyond the glamour of Hollywood.”

Josh Webber, one of the film’s producers along with LaSardo, commented: “I am immensely proud of the movie that Robert has skillfully created for his directorial debut. He handled every obstacle with remarkable insight, and I can’t wait for everyone to witness it through his unique perspective.”

The production was represented by John Kim, the CEO of Deep C Digital and Webber Films, during the negotiation process.

The film is set for release on cable and digital platforms Sept. 10.
