In his debut Netflix scripted comedy series titled “Bad Thoughts“, comedian and podcast host Tom Segura assumes multiple roles. While other cast members like Dan Stevens, Robert Iler, Arturo Castro, and Daniella Pineda make guest appearances, Segura is the main star in nearly every sketch featured across the first season. Comprising six episodes, each ranging from 17 to 22 minutes in length, “Bad Thoughts” combines dark humor and satire, offering a twisted take reminiscent of an episode of “Saturday Night Live“.

In a manner reminiscent to the docu-comedy series “How to with John Wilson,” each episode of Bad Thoughts revolves around a broad topic or familiar subject. For instance, episode 1 explores ‘Jobs,’ while the season 1 finale, episode 6, delves into ‘Health.’ Fans of Segura are well acquainted with his unique style of dark humor, which is interwoven throughout Bad Thoughts’ first season in the form of numerous offbeat jokes and situations. It’s worth noting that Bad Thoughts marks Segura’s debut in a scripted Netflix series, although he has previously written and starred in five Netflix comedy specials, including “Ball Hog” from 2020 and “Disgraceful” from 2018.

10. Agent Six

A Sloppy Assassin

In the first episode of Bad Thoughts season 1, Agent Six, played by Segura, is portrayed as a seemingly clandestine operative and assassin, known simply as Agent Six. This character appears to be a humorous take on the 2023 David Fincher Netflix film The Killer, starring Michael Fassbender. In a grave setting, Agent Six readies himself for a remote assassination with a silenced sniper rifle. He takes aim at his target, but unfortunately, he misses and ends up killing a waitress instead, causing chaos. With his intended victim escaping, Agent Six finds himself in an embarrassing situation that forces him to remove his trousers hastily, as he struggles to avoid breaking his two cardinal rules: “No women” and “No children.

9. Massimo

A Nursing Home Worker

In episode 1 of season 1 titled “Jobs,” the second sketch features a movie parody by A24. Segura portrays a unique nursing home worker named Massimo who possesses an extraordinary ability to bond with the elderly residents. The staff, including Stevens’ character Mr. Fletcher, are puzzled by this mysterious talent until a surprising revelation unfolds, leading to Massimo’s termination and banishment from the facility. The residents, however, support his return, but he escapes after learning that one of them is pregnant.

8. Cyrus

An IT Guy Turned Tech Guru

In Bad Thoughts season 1, Cyrus plays a significant role in character development, making appearances in episodes 1, 2, and 6. Initially presented as an IT professional at the same firm as Evan (Iler), there’s a moment during a meeting where Evan seems preoccupied by Cyrus. This is because instead of diligently working on cleaning up the company’s server, Cyrus seems to be secretly enjoying an NSFW virtual reality game.

In the progression of the series, it’s disclosed that Cyrus had been secretly orchestrating his unique game titled “Aliens F–k Humans,” which eventually skyrocketed in popularity and made him extremely wealthy. When Evan challenges Cyrus over incorporating his likeness in his VR game at a later stage, Cyrus exacts his revenge on Evan for not keeping a slice of cake for him during Cheryl’s workplace birthday party long ago.

7. Steven Seagal

An Iconic Action Movie Hero

In episode 2 of “Bad Thoughts,” titled “Success,” Segura skillfully mimics the acting style of renowned action movie star, Steven Seagal. The scene unfolds on a film set simulating a movie named “Maximum Kickage.” Here, Segura humorously imitates certain aspects of the actual Seagal and his questionable selection of 2010s action films. Although Seagal has not starred in any feature film since 2019, he is widely recognized for his roles in “Above the Law,” “Under Siege,” and “On Deadly Ground.

6. Rex Henley

A Twisted Country Western Star

In episode 2 of “Bad Thoughts”, Segura is unveiled as Rex Henley, a fictionalized country western sensation who exploits his followers for songwriting ideas by keeping them hostage. This character is a humorous take on the well-known musician Garth Brooks, whom Segura has often shown admiration for online. With Daniella Pineda’s character Shelly, one of the captives, Rex comes to understand that he doesn’t require imprisonment to create quality content. Instead, he chooses to experience genuine hardship, leading him to try and coerce Shelly into a romantic relationship.

In episode 3 of “Bad Thoughts,” titled “Family,” we are introduced to Joe, an American who has relocated to Gordes, France, to be with his girlfriend Genevieve. Following a shocking breakup and being derogatorily referred to as overweight by a French waiter, Joe strikes up a conversation with a kind restaurant patron, eventually crossing paths with a French woman named Kati (portrayed by Malin Barr). As events unfold, Joe finds himself in Kati’s bedroom. Remarkably, Kati refers to Joe as “Juju” and propositions him, suggesting he can stay the night with her on the condition that he shares a bed with her sister, Brigitte, first. The narrative continues into episode 4 of “Bad Thoughts,” titled “Love.

In the fourth episode of Bad Thoughts season 1, Segura assumes dual roles, portraying both Joe and Brigitte, Kati’s sister who is often found in a prone position. One particularly intriguing scene from this dark series involves Joe and Brigitte engaging in an intimate encounter to facilitate Joe’s pursuit of Kati.

3. Barry the Sandwich Guy

A Local TV Personality

In episode 4 of “Bad Thoughts”, comedian Bobby Lee and actor Segura play roles where they portray a podcast host and a local TV personality known as Barry the Sandwich Guy respectively. The scene unfolds in a hospital room where Bobby Lee’s character’s wife, who is battling a terminal illness, expresses her final wish to spend intimate moments with Barry the Sandwich Guy. Intriguingly, he arrives at the hospital with a freshly wrapped hoagie sandwich. As the story progresses, the husband starts to consider granting this wish due to its emotional significance. At the end of season 1 for the series “Bad Thoughts”, the main character, Segura, is introduced as Mr. Hale, a college professor who’s often ignored and disregarded by both his students and colleagues. To make a change in his life, Mr. Hale chooses to sign up at Hardcore Gym, where he meets Gary Crawford, the gym manager. Gary encourages Mr. Hale to take a small, green pre-workout drink that offers him physiological improvements. As Mr. Hale continues to work out and consume this drink, the benefits escalate significantly, eventually causing a major issue.
