As a seasoned film enthusiast with over three decades of immersion in the cinematic universe, I am absolutely thrilled by this latest announcement from Paramount+. The prospect of seeing Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan grace our screens under the direction of Guy Ritchie is nothing short of a dream come true.
LATEST NEWS: Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan are now confirmed to feature in the Paramount+ series produced by Guy Ritchie and Ronan Bennett.
Previously, it was announced that the group was near completion of deals to appear on the show. The concept had originally been created as a spin-off titled “The Donovans,” inspired by the Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” starring Liev Schreiber for seven seasons and later adapted into a movie. However, it has since evolved into a self-contained series with no ties to that franchise. Additionally, it was previously known as “The Associate” during filming, but that is no longer accurate.
The production for an upcoming show, yet to be named, has commenced in London. This project is expected to premiere on Paramount+ and Showtime in 2025. This role brings together Hardy and Ritchie again, who last collaborated in the 2008 film “RocknRolla.” Additionally, it continues Mirren’s association with Paramount, as she is currently acting in Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” spinoff, titled “1923.”
The central theme revolves around two powerful families based in London, whose businesses span across the world. A dedicated ‘mediator’ is tasked with shielding one of these families, no matter the cost.
Hardy takes on the role of Harry Da Souza, who is an experienced mediator representing the Harrigan clan. Brosnan portrays Conrad Harrigan, the leader of a highly influential Irish crime syndicate based in London where Harry serves. Mirren embodies Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife and the revered matriarch of the Harrigan family.
Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren are highly skilled professionals, and it’s a privilege to have them spearhead the cast in Guy Richie’s latest original global series. The imaginative talent of Guy Richie, Jez Butterworth, and Ronan Bennett, combined with these talented actors, sets the stage for what we anticipate will be another groundbreaking series on Showtime, exclusively available on Paramount+.
Hardy is represented by Range Media, United Agents, and Sloane Offer; Brosnan is represented by CAA, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson; while Mirren is represented solely by CAA.
The one-hour gangster drama series is produced by Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, with Bennett handling the writing and Ritchie taking on directing duties. Both of them are also serving as executive producers, along with Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson, Tom Hardy, Dean Baker, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari. In simpler terms, many studios are involved in creating this gangster drama series, with Bennett writing the script and Ritchie directing it. They, along with others, are also acting as executive producers for the project.
Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of programming for Paramount+, stated that this new Guy Ritchie crime series will offer audiences exactly what they’d anticipate from a collaboration between Paramount + and Showtime: top-notch performances, gripping narratives, and superior production quality from industry leaders,” (paraphrased by me).
Bennett is known for creating the popular British crime series “Top Boy” and penning novels such as “The Catastrophist,” “Overthrown by Strangers,” and “Havoc, in Its Third Year.” Additionally, he wrote the screenplay for the Michael Mann movie “Public Enemies.” Upcoming projects include producing and writing the series adaptation of “The Day of the Jackal” for Sky and Peacock, featuring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch in the lead roles.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Guy Ritchie’s latest TV endeavor is his adaptation of “The Gentlemen,” which premiered on Netflix this spring and has already been renewed for a second season. This project follows the success of his 2019 crime feature with the same name. Notably, Ritchie’s directorial repertoire includes films like this year’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” as well as “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant,” “Snatch,” “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Aladdin.
