Now that the show seems to be heading in the right direction, the first trailer for the FBI spin-off, which focuses on the CIA, has been released.
CBS has just released a trailer for its new show, CIA. The series stars Tom Ellis as Hart Hoxton, a CIA officer who teams up—much to his reluctance—with Nick Gehlfuss’ character, Bill Goodman, a strict FBI agent. Together, they’ll investigate various dangers in New York City. You can watch the exciting trailer below.
The trailer for the new CIA series is exciting and moves quickly, starting with Bill giving Hart a lie detector test. The preview features lots of action, like explosions and gunfire, mixed with playful, sarcastic banter between the two leads. It ends with them shaking hands, suggesting they’re resigned to working together for a while.
A new CBS crime drama will premiere on Monday, February 23, 2026, right after the season 8 return of the show FBI. The series will star Necar Zadegan as the head of the CIA station and Natalee Linez as an analyst, joining Ellis and Gehlfuss in the cast.
As a huge TV fan, I was thrilled to hear CBS officially announced CIA on April 22nd, 2025! I’d been following rumors – apparently, they started developing the spinoff way back in January 2025. What’s really interesting is they originally planned to introduce it as a backdoor pilot, meaning an episode of FBI that would essentially test the waters and introduce the new characters and storyline. It’s cool how networks sometimes try things out like that before committing to a full series.
Things got really messy behind the scenes, and it completely derailed CBS’s plans. We started hearing about last-minute departures – first Michael Michele, then the showrunner, Warren Leight, just days later. While FBI managed to stay on schedule, CIA was scrambling to find replacements for both cast and leadership. Ultimately, all those delays and changes forced CBS to abandon their initial concept for the spin-off. It was a frustrating situation, and you can definitely feel the impact of those creative shifts.
CIA will debut on February 23, 2026, at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on CBS.
