Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Leads Again at China Box Office as ‘Ballerina’ Bows in Third

Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” held its position as the number one film at the Chinese box office for a second week in a row, bringing in approximately $9.8 million (RMB70.7 million) during the June 6-8 period, as reported by Artisan Gateway.

The action sequel starring Tom Cruise has earned $46.9 million in China, demonstrating its robust performance even with fewer new movies being released. Out of this amount, Imax contributed $1.7 million, bringing its total earnings from this format in China to $8.7 million.

Finishing strongly in second position, the Chinese animated fantasy titled “Endless Journey of Love,” distributed by Maoyan Movie, accumulated an additional $4.2 million during its second week. Helmed by directors Zhou Tienan and Yu Ao, the film is a time-travel adventure set in 1930s China. It revolves around Qian Xiao, a villager who discovers her ability to manipulate time, which draws unwanted attention from powerful entities. As she navigates the city’s concealed mysteries, she encounters danger and grapples with the consequences of her newfound power. The star-studded voice cast features Karry Wang, Liu Xiaoyu, and Zhou Shen. To date, the film has grossed a total of $16.7 million.

The action thriller “Ballerina,” produced by Lionsgate and a spinoff from the popular “John Wick” series, debuted in third position with earnings of $2.9 million. In this movie, Ana de Armas plays a vengeful hitwoman moving through the criminal underworld.

In “Doraemon: Nobita’s Art World Tales,” directed by Teramoto Yukiyo, Doraemon and his companions explore the realm of paintings, leading them on an epic journey. The movie earned $2.2 million in its fourth place showing, bringing its total earnings to a impressive $12.1 million. The film’s voice talent includes Wasabi Mizuta, Megumi Ōhara, and Yumi Kakazu.

Completing the list of the top five earners was Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch,” bringing in a total of $2.1 million. This live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated film has amassed $22.4 million since its release on May 23, exclusively in China.

Over the past weekend, China’s box office earnings amounted to approximately $26 million, which is a significant decline compared to the previous weekend’s earnings of $58.2 million. So far this year, the total gross has reached $3.88 billion, representing a substantial 26.3% rise compared to the same period in 2024.
