Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Continues Korea Box Office Reign, ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Debuts in Second

Over the weekend, I, a dedicated moviegoer, found myself once again captivated by Tom Cruise’s iconic character, Ethan Hunt, as “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” continued its reign atop the Korean box office for the second consecutive week. This action-packed masterpiece raked in an impressive $5 million from 688,160 admissions, spread across 2,150 screens, making up a substantial 64.65% of the total box office revenue, as reported by Kobis, a service run by the Korean Film Council.

The total earnings of the movie have reached $13.4 million, with a grand audience of 1.84 million people having watched it since it premiered on May 17th.

Finishing second in the box office race, Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” kicked off with a gross of $1.1 million and a total attendance of 157,480, screening on 1,034 different theaters. Since its debut on May 21st in Korea, the movie has accumulated earnings of $1.3 million.

Or more informally:

Coming in second place, Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” started off strong with a box office take of $1.1 million and a total audience of 157,480 across 1,034 screens. Since its Korean debut on May 21st, it’s made a cool $1.3 million.

In the third spot, the South Korean crime film “Yadang: The Snitch” maintained its momentum, earning approximately $450,067 with 61,940 additional viewers. Since its premiere in April, this local production has accumulated a total of $23 million from over 3.32 million ticket sales.

In South Korea, the movie adaptation of Minecraft earned a fourth-place spot with $178,899 in ticket sales and approximately 26,250 viewers. The film has now amassed a total gross of over $9.2 million and attracted more than 1.34 million spectators.

In the fifth week, as a keen admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the gripping South Korean action-drama “The Old Woman With the Knife” amassed an impressive $142,121 at the box office, boosting its grand total to a staggering $3.7 million. This incredible feat was achieved through over 532,000 eager moviegoers like myself.

As a movie enthusiast, I recently checked out the latest local release titled “Election Fraud: Divine Intervention?” It opened in sixth place, bringing in $107,737 and attracting 15,823 viewers across 140 screens. Since its debut on May 21st, this thought-provoking documentary has managed to gross a total of $152,182.

In the seventh spot, the horror sequel “Final Destination: Bloodlines” earned an additional $95,933, bringing its overall revenue to $516,929 from a total of 70,307 ticket sales.

As a movie critic, I must confess that Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” seems to be losing its initial sparkle, dropping yet another spot in the rankings, landing at the eighth position this week. With a total of $91,758 in earnings and 12,515 admissions, it appears the audience’s enthusiasm might be waning. However, I must acknowledge that its cumulative gross in Korea has reached an impressive $6.7 million.

The Japanese romantic drama titled “My Beloved Stranger” debuted at the ninth position, earning $80,836 and welcoming 11,822 viewers across 212 cinemas on its opening day.

In tenth place, the extended run of the popular anime film “Attack on Titan: The Final Battle” earned an additional $89,124, bringing its cumulative gross to approximately $6.6 million from over 884,000 ticket sales in South Korea.

The top ten films earned approximately $8.4 million, slightly less than the previous week’s earnings, but still showing strong continuity as we approach the end of May. This momentum has been boosted by a combination of popular franchise movies and trusted domestic hits, keeping the Korean box office vibrant.
