Tom Cruise Says He ‘Can’t See’ During ‘Final Reckoning’ Underwater Sequence Because of Intense Lighting and Had to Wear ‘125 Pound’ Diving Suit: It Took ‘Years of Development’

In “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” Tom Cruise went all-out, pushing his body to its maximum for the action sequences.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I was utterly amazed when Tom Cruise shared intriguing insights about an intense underwater sequence from “Final Reckoning” on The Tonight Show recently. In this scene, Ethan Hunt sneaks into a submerged submarine, and To top it off, the diving suit he wore during filming weighed more than 100 pounds. Simply incredible!

Tom Cruise often struggles with visibility due to light reflections, making it difficult for him to navigate on set,” he shared. “As a result, I’d go in almost blind, spending extensive time determining the movements and shots. Performing these actions then becomes challenging. To make matters worse, when the suit is wet, it adds around 125 pounds, necessitating intense workouts for preparation. And to top it off, as the producer, there are additional responsibilities involved.

On a previous occasion, Cruise had discussed the underwater stunt. Previously, the four-time Oscar nominee had mentioned that he had to inhale carbon dioxide during filming of the submerged scene due to the restrictions of his scuba equipment.

“Cruise stated, ‘I’m essentially re-inhaling my own CO2.’ This substance accumulates within the body, impacting muscle function. It’s crucial to conquer this challenge during the act itself, while staying fully aware.”
