T’Nia Miller Joins CG-Animated Special ‘A Lamb’s Stew’: First Teaser Drops for Cartoon Forum (EXCLUSIVE)

As a movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical worlds of animation, I must say that the news about “A Lamb’s Stew” has piqued my interest significantly. With its enchanting visual style and thought-provoking narrative, this project seems to be a perfect blend of modern storytelling and timeless fairy tale charm.

The French animation company, La Cabane Productions, has announced some significant new hires for voice acting and scriptwriting on their upcoming animated TV special titled “A Lamb’s Stew.” Additionally, they have released the first sneak peek trailer, which will be showcased during a pitch session at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse.

Today’s sneak peek reveals that British actor T’Nia Miller (“Years and Years,” “Sex Education”) and newcomer Iris Onyejiuwa, aged 11, will take on the main role of Billie in the project. Additionally, Julia Smuts Louw has been brought on board as a story editor for the production, which is penned by Joeri Christiaen and helmed by him as well.

Smuts Louw, a skilled writer in animation, has recently reworked the critically acclaimed TV film “The Smeds and the Smoos,” which won an International Emmy and Annecy award. Additionally, he authored the episodes for “Star Wars: Visions” during its second season titled “Aau’s Song.

In “A Lamb’s Stew,” high-definition CG animation is used to create an authentic stop-motion texture, intensifying the enchanting fairy tale atmosphere. The fluffy appearance of the animal fur and strategic use of lighting give the impression that these characters are tangible toys straight from a child’s playroom, inviting you to interact with them as if they were really there.

The project’s official summary goes like this: “A daring young lamb aims to demonstrate that sheep possess equal courage as other creatures. In an attempt to trap a wolf using guile, she finds herself confronting a misconception – the wolf isn’t the villain she presumed. The film explores how our perspectives are influenced by pre-existing notions through the tale of Billie, a rebellious and unorthodox lamb who challenges a supposedly fearsome wolf. The movie encourages us to reject hasty judgments: never judge a sheep based on its fleece, nor a wolf by its fur!

I’m thrilled about ‘A Lamb’s Stew,’ a 30-minute television special I admire, which is jointly produced by La Cabane and Thuristar. This captivating production is tailored for young audiences and families alike. Notably, it has secured support from the European Union’s Creative Europe Media program, making it one of the most anticipated titles at this year’s Cartoon Forum.

Established in 2015, La Cabane rapidly gained recognition as one of France’s most dynamic production studios, culminating in a nomination for French TV Producer of the Year by 2020. The studio has been behind the International Emmy-nominated series “Mush-Mush & the Mushables” and the critically acclaimed animated short film “Luce and the Rock.” This latter production garnered awards at GLAS, Anima – Brussels, and a jury special mention at the Berlinale.
