Among the notable newcomers to HBO’s The Last of Us cast for season 2, Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby. One individual expressing great anticipation about Dever’s performance is Halley Gross, a co-writer of The Last of Us: Part II video game.
At the start of Season 2, Gross enthusiastically commended Dever’s talent, expressing his belief that her portrayal of Abby would set a new standard for female acting performances on television.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but be intrigued about the response Abby will garner. Kaitlyn Dever, in my opinion, is an actress with a captivating charm. She infuses Abby with such depth that it’s truly impressive. To me, she embodies intense female rage, but also profound female passion. This multidimensional female character is set to challenge our perspectives on what women can achieve in television.

In the narrative of The Last of Us: Part II, Abby occupies a significant position, likely to maintain a substantial presence in the upcoming TV series as well. However, Abby’s character is not universally embraced; she stirs strong opinions, even prompting death threats towards the voice actor Laura Bailey and her newborn child over the role.
At the debut event, Dever shared her feeling of coming full circle with The Last of Us. It’s worth mentioning that Dever was initially thought of for the role of Ellie when the series was initially planned as a film. However, that didn’t come to fruition. She expressed her appreciation for Bella Ramsey’s portrayal of Ellie in the television adaptation and is thrilled about joining the franchise herself, playing the character Abby.
She remarked that when it reappeared in her life, it seemed as though it had been destined for her all along, but in a different form,” she said.
