Timothée Chalamet Says He Lost Out on Roles in ‘Maze Runner’ and ‘Divergent’ After Being Told ‘You Don’t Have the Right Body’ For Action Films

As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a soft spot for underdog stories, I find myself deeply moved by Timothée Chalamet‘s journey. His resilience and unwavering passion for his craft are nothing short of inspiring.

Timothée Chalamet disclosed that he missed opportunities to star in action series such as “Maze Runner” and “Divergent,” with the reason given to him being “Your physique isn’t suitable.

The actor who currently headlines the hit sci-fi show “Dune” admitted that he attempted to gain weight, aiming to alter his physique, but was unsuccessful.

Chalamet shared with Rolling Stone U.K., ‘I consistently received the same criticism, ‘You’re not built the right way,” He also revealed an agent told him, ‘I’m growing weary of the same feedback. We’ll stop submitting you for larger roles since you can’t gain weight.’ However, I was attempting to gain weight, but my body just wouldn’t allow it.

Due to constant rejections, he admitted, he opted for taking on smaller, independent film projects like “Call Me By Your Name.” These choices eventually gained him international recognition. Speaking about action films, which seemed unresponsive, he said, “I was trying to open a door that wouldn’t budge, so I found what I thought was a less prestigious one, but it turned out to be highly rewarding for me.

This month, Timothée Chalamet graces the cover of Rolling Stone U.K., promoting his upcoming project, “A Complete Unknown.” In this film, he portrays the iconic musician Bob Dylan. Prior to the movie, Chalamet was more inclined towards hip-hop, with aspirations to rap that he deemed unsuccessful. However, as he delved into preparing for the role over the past few years, his appreciation for Dylan’s music has blossomed into a deep-seated fandom.

In his meticulous preparation for the role, it’s been reported that he collaborated with a vocal coach, guitar instructor, dialect expert, movement guide, and harmonica mentor. His dedication was such that even his co-stars, Edward Norton and Monica Barbaro, mentioned he tended to stay secluded on set, choosing to delve deeply into the realm of Dylan in order to deliver an authentic portrayal.

Chalamet expressed that there were moments during his preparation for playing Bob Dylan that caused him anxiety, making him miss valuable discovery time due to distractions like his phone or other factors. He had spent five years preparing for this role, and in the three months he had to actually play Dylan, he was completely dedicated to it. He felt that Dylan deserved his full attention and then some, as he didn’t want any lapse because he was being careless or distracted. He could be Timmy (implying a more casual or relaxed state) for the rest of his life, but while playing Dylan, he wanted to give it his all.
