In the past few years, tabletop games inspired by well-known intellectual properties have gained significant popularity, with successful titles like Heroes of Might and Magic and Stardew Valley being adapted into board games. However, let’s forget about any past mishaps and focus on what’s coming up next since this announcement took me by surprise. Recently, Go On Board revealed a teaser for their upcoming project – Tekken – The Board Game.
Get ready for the next battle!
Board Games company has unveiled an exciting collaboration with Bandai Namco! Starting from March 24th, they launched a pre-campaign for the board game adaptation of “Tekken” on Gamefound. This tabletop game aims to replicate the swift action of the Tekken series, enabling players to engage in thrilling combat beyond their screens.
In this game, you’ll engage in intense, individual duels where each player controls a distinctive character with unique skill sets represented by cards. Victory isn’t solely dependent on raw power; it requires proficiency in managing your character’s playstyle, identifying their optimal attack zones, and executing potent combos. The game is heavily strategy-oriented, emphasizing mental agility, tactical positioning, and well-executed surprise attacks. To be successful, we must manage our cards wisely, anticipate our opponents’ moves, and utilize the hexagonal board to our advantage.
In the adapted version of the board game, certain distinctive features from Tekken, such as Wall Break, Floor Break, and Wall Blast, have been incorporated. For those who crave more than just one-on-one battles, there’s also a tournament mode that can accommodate up to eight players, leading to some intense and highly competitive confrontations.
To date, it’s been confirmed that both Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama are part of the roster of fighters. As the project progresses, we can expect to see additional characters unveiled (here’s hoping for Lili!). For those who support and follow the campaign, there will be an Angel Jin expansion offered, which includes a 50mm miniature figure and cards.
In case you’re not familiar with it yet, Go On Board is a Polish tabletop game company that has gained popularity for their games like The Witcher: Old World. They are currently working on another title called The Witcher: Path of Destiny, which will be released soon. Additionally, they have plans to release Cyberpunk 2077 – The Board Game in December 2025.
