Time To Clear Our Your Switch 2 Storage For Final Fantasy VII Remake

If you’re planning to play Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, you’ll need to make sure you have plenty of free space – the game requires between 90 and 99 GB of storage, depending on which version you get.

Square Enix announced the game’s file sizes on social media: the standard edition will take up 90 to 95 GB of space, and the Limited Early Purchase Edition – which also includes the original Final Fantasy VII – will require between 93.8 and 99 GB.

The Switch 2 will come with 256 GB of storage. A large game like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will take up roughly 35 to 40% of that space. Interestingly, this version of the game actually requires a bit less storage than the PlayStation 5 version, which needs about 81 GB.

Here’s an update on how much storage Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade needs on the Nintendo Switch 2:

Standard Edition: 90GB – 95GB
Limited Early Purchase & Digital Deluxe Editions: 93.8GB – 99GB

The official Nintendo website will be updated with this information shortly.

This game takes up more storage space than other big third-party titles on the Switch 2, including Apex Legends (78.5 GB), Split Fiction (73 GB), and the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (59 GB).

So, it looks like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming to the Switch 2 on a Game Key Card. That basically means everyone – even if you buy a physical copy – will have to download the entire game. There’s no getting around a full install, which is a bit different than how some games work.

So, I’m hearing that the new Switch 2 is really limited when it comes to game cards. Apparently, developers can only use 64GB cards or something called ‘Game Key Cards’. There’s no middle ground, no smaller sizes, and no way to go bigger. Which is kinda crazy because it means even a huge game like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade wouldn’t fit on a cartridge, even if Square Enix wanted to put it on there! It’s a pretty big limitation, honestly.

If you want to play Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2, getting a microSD Express Card to add more storage is likely the best solution besides buying other games. However, as you add more games to your Switch 2, storage could become a real issue, particularly with the rest of the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy coming to the console.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on January 22, 2026. The game will feature a new, very easy difficulty setting called “Streamlined Progression” for players who want a faster, more relaxed experience with Cloud’s adventure.
