‘Time Bandits’ Canceled After One Season at Apple TV+

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless television series adaptations over the years, I find myself feeling a tad melancholic upon hearing that Apple TV+’s “Time Bandits” has been canceled after just one season.

“Time Bandits” has been canceled by Apple TV+ after one season, EbMaster has confirmed.

The magical television show featuring Lisa Kudrow centers around a band of burglars who leap through dimensions to amass wealth. Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi are responsible for the series adaptation from Terry Gilliam’s 1981 film, with Clement and Morris sharing the role as executive producers.

Joining Kudrow are Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Charlyne Yi, Rune Temte, Rachel House, Kiera Thompson, James Dryden, Felicity Ward, Francesca Mills, and Imaan Hadchiti – making up the rest of the cast.

Clement, Morris, Waititi were responsible for writing, directing some episodes of the series “Time Bandits,” while also serving as executive producers alongside Garrett Basch, Jane Stanton (for Handmade Films), and Tim Coddington. The production was handled by Paramount TV Studios in collaboration with AC Studios from Anonymous Content and MRC Television.

In July, Morris discussed with EbMaster the possibility of creating a modern TV interpretation of Gilliam’s 1981 cult favorite, “Time Bandits.” However, he emphasized that it’s not just an adaptation, but rather a fresh take on new concepts to re-engage contemporary viewers. He believes that “Time Bandits” is almost a forgotten classic, as many people are unaware of it, while others consider it their all-time favorite film. Rare as these fans may be, Morris thinks that by breathing new life into captivating ideas and mesmerizing worlds, and by adapting, evolving, and introducing them to a new audience, the outcome can only be exciting. He further compares this process to creating cover versions of classic songs, suggesting that some of the best songs ever made are covers.
