Tim Burton Says Going on the Internet ‘Scared Me’ and ‘I Got Quite Depressed’: ‘I Try to Avoid It’ and Look at Clouds to Feel Better

As a fervent admirer of Tim Burton‘s enchanting and whimsical world, I find myself captivated by his unique approach to life and artistry. His unconventional choices, such as eschewing social media and finding solace in the simple beauty of clouds and dinosaurs, resonate deeply with me.

Tim Burton, known for directing “Beetlejuice,” frequently avoids being online. In an interview with the BBC before the opening of The World of Tim Burton exhibit at London’s Design Museum, he confessed that he feels down when he uses the internet and prefers to observe clouds instead, finding solace in their natural beauty.

Burton mentioned that he’s not very fond of technology. He shared an experience where exploring the internet left him feeling quite downcast. This discovery made him uneasy as it led him towards a concerning direction. To maintain his wellbeing, he prefers to stay away from it.

He mentioned that he can become emotionally down or sad quite rapidly, possibly faster than most others. And once he begins engaging online, things can quickly escalate and malfunction, as he pointed out regarding the dangers of the internet.

According to the BBC report, the filmmaker mentioned that staying active, observing clouds, and even his collection of oversized dinosaur models – which includes a 20ft tall T-Rex – found in his backyard, contribute positively to his mood.

After the massive success of his latest film, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Burton’s career is soaring. This much-anticipated sequel to his 1988 classic premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September and has already earned $434 million globally. On top of this, his hit Netflix series “Wednesday” is expected to return for a second season in 2025, further boosting Burton’s recent professional achievements.

Burton described the pathway in Hollywood as a whimsical adventure akin to Alice’s journey in Wonderland, where you move forward, backward, and sideways. As I mature, I understand more clearly that I will simply follow my own desires, and if others wish to join me on this journey, they are welcome; if not, then they need not.
