People on TikTok are playfully imitating the popular ‘AI babies dance’ ad, and many are creating versions that are actually more impressive than the original AI-generated video.
Artificial intelligence is now common across all social media. You can hardly browse platforms like YouTube Shorts or X (formerly Twitter) without encountering content created by AI, including features like X’s Grok.
If you use TikTok, you’ve probably seen ads for an AI filter that turns people in videos into dancing babies. For a small fee – around $2 or £2 – it lets you create a video where everyone appears to be a dancing baby.
Many TikTok users have found it frustrating and a waste of time, leaving negative comments on videos. However, it’s also inspired a new trend among dancers.
TikTokers fight back at dancing AI babies trend
TikTok users have been recreating AI-generated dance moves, and often, they’re actually doing a better job than the original AI!
One popular example is TikTok user iammarthadove, who shared a video about saving nearly $2 by having their daughter perform a dance that was created using artificial intelligence. The video was a hit, gaining over 1.6 million views and almost 200,000 likes.
Okay, so I was streaming and people were seriously impressed! One person said my gameplay was so good it looked like AI, which was wild. Another viewer actually thought it was AI for a moment, and then said it was even better than the AI versions they’d seen. It was a pretty awesome compliment, honestly!
Several people, like thewilliamsfam_ and Brittney Saunders, have shared videos of the dance, gaining significant attention – their videos have been viewed 6.3 million and 1.7 million times, respectively.
I was scrolling through The Williams Fam’s videos and saw someone comment that the content was so good, it didn’t even feel like AI – just really funny videos! Then, over on Saunders’ page, someone else said they’d watched a video a thousand times and still couldn’t tell if it was real or made by AI. It’s seriously that convincing!
While many continue to share AI-generated videos using the trend’s hashtag, others are actively criticizing or opposing it.
