A new controller monitors your heart rate as you play, and can alert you if it detects something potentially concerning, like a dangerously high spike during a scary moment.
By 2025, gaming PCs became incredibly over-the-top. ASUS created a special Hatsune Miku computer with a powerful new RTX 5080 graphics card and coordinating components, but a YouTuber quickly one-upped them by building a fully functional, two-meter-tall gaming PC shaped like the virtual idol herself.
It seemed bound to happen: instead of monitoring what you do in a game, someone would start tracking you – your physical reactions. Now, it’s not about how fast you click or react, but about things like when you start to sweat, even if you feel calm.
Anbernic reveals PC controller that watches your heartbeat
Anbernic, a company popular for making budget-friendly retro gaming devices, recently introduced a new product: the RG G01 Smart Controller. Revealed on January 23rd, this gamepad is designed primarily for PC gaming and uniquely tracks your heart rate as you play.
This heart-rate tracking controller is incredibly versatile, working with PCs, Steam, Nintendo Switch, iPhones, Android devices, and Linux systems. It connects via Bluetooth 5.0, a fast 2.4GHz wireless connection, or a USB-C cable. Whether you use it wired or wirelessly, it offers a super-responsive 1000Hz polling rate. It also features controls to prevent joystick drift, adjustable triggers for different game types (like racing and shooting), motion controls, customizable macro buttons, extra buttons on the back, and dual vibration motors for immersive feedback.
The controller features a prominent, curved color screen. This isn’t just for show – it lets you customize controls, create shortcuts, and adjust settings right on the device. But the most exciting part is the built-in heart rate sensor in the grip, which shows your pulse during gameplay and can even warn you if it gets too high.
We don’t know how much it will cost or when it will be available, but it’s expected to be a real attention-grabber – exciting fans during Silent Hill f trailers, alerting you to Resident Evil Requiem news, and making you instantly check for GTA 6 updates.
