Social media personality Charles Smith (also known as Wolfie Kahletti) was given a 12-month jail term due to his actions of contaminating grocery items with pesticide at a Walmart store in Mesa, Arizona, as an element of a prank video.
Smith admitted his guilt in relation to three offenses: contaminating food with poison or harmful substances, causing damage criminally, and attempting to hire someone to break into a property. On June 24, he was sentenced and served an additional nine months in prison, taking into account the 136 days he had already spent behind bars. Additionally, he received three years of probation, which will run simultaneously with his prison term.

On December 19, 2023, an incident occurred at a Walmart located where Stapley Drive meets Baseline Road. A man named Smith walked into the store and grabbed a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer off the shelf. Instead of using it for its intended purpose, he sprayed the contents onto a variety of fresh produce and rotisserie chicken as he recorded the incident on his phone.

He shared the video on both TikTok and Instagram, which led to criticism. Despite the initial post being removed, Smith later uploaded two additional videos stating that the tainted food had been thrown away.
Yet, it was disclosed through court records that the surveillance video demonstrated him revisiting the store approximately ten minutes after, and subsequently putting the affected goods into a shopping cart, which he subsequently moved to another section of the store.
In connection with the incident, Walmart took out merchandise valued at approximately $931, which included food items. The police were able to identify Smith from the security footage and subsequently reached out to him. Two days after this contact, Smith surrendered himself and confessed to vandalizing the food and attempting to pilfer a pesticide.
At that moment, Smith informed The Arizona Republic that “no one fell ill” and the tainted food was discarded immediately. However, prosecutors pointed out that there was a significant risk to customers as the duration between application of the contaminant and its disposal left an opportunity for someone to purchase the contaminated goods.
