Jake Larson, affectionately known as “Papa Jake” by his 1.2 million TikTok fans, passed away at the age of 102. During his later years, he captivated countless people by recounting World War II tales and motivating millions through his online presence.
On July 17, McKaela Larson announced on her TikTok account that the honored D-Day veteran had passed away in a tranquil manner.
He passed away calmly, still managing to share his humor until the final moments,” she expressed. “I am deeply grateful that we could all share Papa Jake with each other. He valued every one of you tremendously.
D-Day hero turned TikToker ‘Papa Jake’ dies at 102
Growing up in Owatonna, Minnesota, I found a way to join the National Guard at 15, bending the truth about my age in 1938. Fast forward to 1944, I was part of the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach during the Normandy landings. I miraculously survived hails of enemy fire, a testament to one of the most significant events in World War II history – a tale I shared on the Unsubscribe podcast.
Later on, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Legion of Honor from France for his dedicated service.
During his later life, Papa Jake gained unexpected fame on social media. His “Story Time with Papa Jake” TikTok channel drew in millions with personal accounts of war experiences, frequently accompanied by emotional homages to his fallen companions.
Tributes have poured in across social media since the announcement.
May you rest in peace, dear Papa Jake! Your service and the wonderful tales you shared are deeply appreciated,” one admirer expressed.
“Heaven has gained another Hero,” another added.

McKaela mentioned that when the moment is appropriate, she’ll carry on telling Papa Jake’s tales and ensure his legacy endures,” (This version retains the original meaning while using simpler language to make it more accessible.)
From the beaches of Normandy to the viral feeds of Gen Z, Papa Jake’s legacy lives on.
