Tiffany Pollard is an original influencer, and her impact is still felt today. She first gained fame in 2006 on the reality show Flavor of Love, where she competed for Flavor Flav’s affection and earned the nickname “New York” because of where she’s from. Pollard quickly became known for her funny, memorable lines and energetic personality. Her iconic moments – like her comment about “old maiden type of shoes,” a famous photo of her lying in bed wearing sunglasses, and her shocked reaction to a contestant claiming to look like Beyoncé – are now popular images on items sold on Etsy. Pollard loves that people use her image to communicate with each other. “Whether it’s the picture of me in bed or me holding a steak knife, I’m making a statement,” she says.
New York rose to fame on Flavor of Love and then starred in her own dating show, I Love New York. Over the past twenty years, she’s been a popular figure on reality TV, appearing on shows like Celebrity Big Brother, Braxton Family Values, and RuPaul’s Drag Race. More recently, she’s become known as the ultimate villain on Peacock’s House of Villains, consistently outplaying other reality stars like Omarosa and Jax Taylor. As she puts it, “The villain is the real hero because they’re what keeps people watching.”
I realized I’d really ‘made it’ when I couldn’t even go to the grocery store without being recognized and bothered. It happened suddenly – one day I was just a regular person, and the next I was getting stopped everywhere, even while trying to buy milk! People were shocked to see me doing something ordinary, like shopping for cereal. It was an instant, overwhelming change.
Do you recall when that happened? It was right after the first season of Flavor of Love. [Snaps fingers.] I realized, Wow, everyone in the country is watching this show, and I can’t just live a normal life anymore. It was a mixed feeling – I enjoyed the attention, but it also gave me a lot of social anxiety.

Our inaugural celebration of the most powerful people in unscripted television.
I splurged on breast implants with my first paycheck! I was living in Los Angeles and jokingly thought, ‘I admire Dolly Parton, so let’s see if I can compete!’ It was a bit of an impulsive decision, but I just really wanted them.
Were you planning on getting breast implants before you went on the show, or did you decide to do it after winning the prize money? Honestly, I had been thinking about getting them since the very beginning. I wanted to stay on the show as long as possible to save the $2,500 I needed for a basic saline implant.
If you had to sum up your on-screen character in just five words, what would you say? I’d describe her as lively, authentic, fearless, and willing to confront anyone who challenges her.
Looking back at my career, one moment really stands out: when Pumpkin spat on me during a confrontation. It caused a huge reaction from viewers – the ratings went way up! I even still have the wig she spat on, and honestly, I can still feel it. It was a truly unforgettable moment.
Do you often use reaction memes or GIFs featuring yourself? Honestly, I see enough of my own face already! But I really love hearing that people use clips of me to talk to their friends and family – that’s incredibly flattering and makes me feel powerful. [Laughs]
Someone asked if I have a favorite meme of myself, and it’s either the one of me in bed or holding a steak knife! I think both show I’m serious – playful in the bedroom, and definitely serious when I’m cooking!
“Do you still have those sunglasses?” [She laughs.] I really hold onto things! I actually still have the sunglasses, the T-shirt, the boots, and even the wig.
People often ask me why I still have these items. I might consider selling them eventually if someone offers a good price, but honestly, I enjoy wearing them from time to time.
If I could change one thing that happened on TV, it would be getting rejected again on season two of Flavor of Love. I really thought Flav was going to choose me that time! He called me back to be on the show, so I was surprised and hurt when he didn’t pick me. I just couldn’t believe he rejected me twice, and I let him.
I felt misunderstood throughout both seasons of Flavor of Love. A lot of people thought I was a bully or just trying to cause trouble, but really I was genuinely in love with Flav and wanted America to see that. It’s clear they didn’t quite understand what I was trying to do.
Okay, let’s talk about Flavor Flav. Honestly, seeing the news about his new baby with his assistant was a total shock. I mean, I just met her, and apparently they were already a thing! Look, I love Flav, I really do, but he’s got this incredible energy – this raw testosterone – that just seems to naturally lead to, well, babies, even when that’s not the intention. He seriously needs to take things a little slower. It’s a wild situation, and I’m just saying, slow down, man!
If I could trade lives with anyone on reality TV right now, it would be Lisa Rinna. She’s got a great figure and really noticeable lips! Honestly, her lips are a statement. But she seems happy – she has a good marriage and always looks stylish. I really like her and would love to borrow clothes from her closet.
I definitely have a rival from reality TV – it’s Hottie. She’s still acting like she’s a big star, even after all this time! I heard her singing over the holidays and she genuinely thinks she’s Beyoncé – twenty-one years later! She’s just so out of touch with reality, that’s why she’s my nemesis.
It’s been a while since I’ve actually talked to her, but I still see her posts online. She’s always posting videos of herself doing karaoke and pretending to be Beyoncé, which bothers me because it’s really deceptive.
Most great reality shows really benefit from having a villain. They create drama and keep viewers hooked! Let’s be honest, we all enjoy a little bit of conflict and excitement when we’re watching these shows.
People often ask if I see myself as a villain, and honestly, I take that as a compliment. To me, being a ‘villain’ means I’m not afraid to speak my mind and do what needs to be done. It means I’ll be there to help someone if they need it, and I won’t just stand by and watch. At least I’m actively involved, and I hope others will be too.
If you want to be a memorable reality TV villain, make a big impact, but don’t cross me. Because if you do, I’ll remind everyone why I’m the one in charge.
If someone’s trying to become a memorable reality TV villain, they should definitely check out the first season of Flavor of Love. Also, watching my appearances on New York Goes to Work and New York Goes to Hollywood would be a good idea. Seriously, study everything I’ve done – you might even be able to take my place when I’m done! [Laughs]
It’s rare to find a reality TV star who’s truly authentic, both on and off screen. I realized this when I met Paris Hilton. She immediately looked at me and said, “That’s hot” – the same phrase she constantly uses on TV. It was surreal that she actually said it to me! It really struck me how limited her go-to expression seemed to be – those two words were all she really used.
When asked what he misses about his life before becoming famous, he responded that he doesn’t miss anything at all. He now has the financial freedom to acquire whatever he desires and people are very accommodating to him. He described instances where restaurants offer him complete freedom in ordering, highlighting how much things have changed. He firmly believes fame is positive and was always his ultimate goal.
Did you always dream of being famous? I was a wild child, even when I was really young – like four or five years old. My mom used to joke that I was a little performer. I was always getting into mischief and acting up. I even caused an ambulance to come to our house once, just because I was hungry! They took me to the hospital. I’ve always been a bit of a troublemaker, and I guess that meant I was destined for something big.
People keep suggesting I should be on The Traitors. I’m open to it if they ask, but so far, they haven’t contacted me. I’m definitely interested in hearing what they have to offer if they do.
If I were on The Traitors, I wouldn’t want to be strictly a Traitor or a Faithful. I’d want to play a bit of both, just to cause some chaos.
If I could choose any two people to join me on The Traitors, I’d pick Tyson Apostol from House of Villains – I need a good-looking guy! – and Kate Chastain. They’re both villains currently on season three of House of Villains, and they were the people I trusted most on that show.
Many people consider you a trailblazer in reality television. Do you see your impact on any current reality stars or shows? Well, it feels like pretty much all of them! We really started something back then, and now everyone is following suit. I joke about it, but I genuinely enjoy how the genre keeps evolving and I especially love seeing the new faces.
