Based in Paris, Loco Films has taken on “Paying For It,” a film adaptation by Canadian director Sook-Yin Lee, who is renowned for her work on “Octavio is Dead!”. This movie, an adaptation of Chester Brown’s popular graphic novel, will make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in the competitive Platform section.

The film “Backspot” and “Tammy’s Always Dying,” penned by Lee and Joanne Sarazen, features live-action performances by Dan Beirne (known for his roles in “Twentieth Century” and “Priscilla”), up-and-coming talent Emily Lê (“Riceboy Sleeps”), as well as Andrea Werhun, a renowned activist, author, and performer who has worked on “Modern Whore, Thriving: A Dissociative Reverie.”

The movie delves into the subjects of mature love, sexuality, and unconventional relationships. It takes place in the late ’90s and centers on Chester, a reserved cartoonist, who begins engaging in intimate encounters with sex workers. After his girlfriend Sonny chooses to restructure their committed bond, he experiences a unique form of closeness in response.
