Thunderbolts’ Twist Gives Daredevil the Perfect Reason to Take Down Kingpin in Season 2!

Following the debut of The New Avengers, Matt Murdock finds himself more determined than ever to resist Mayor Wilson Fisk’s anti-vigilante policies. In the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio delivered stunning performances as they squared off in various conflicts across New York City. Despite Murdock’s reputation as a renowned and respected attorney, Fisk rapidly gained respect and power within the city by assuming the role of Mayor.

Throughout season 1, the duo find it difficult to adjust to their new responsibilities, as they’re both tormented by their pasts which they attempted to leave behind. This struggle eventually escalates into a significant conflict between them, hinting at even more dramatic developments in season 2. However, following the occurrences of Thunderbolts, it seems like the stakes have been elevated once more in the ongoing fight between ordinary citizens and vigilante justice, given the vibrant histories of The New Avengers.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Ends With Kingpin Making Life Harder For New York’s Vigilantes

The Anti-Vigilante Task Force Are Working Overtime To Take Control Of New York

During the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again,” Fisk grows increasingly exasperated by bureaucratic hurdles, political processes, and the sluggish pace of governmental actions. In response, he decides to take direct action, relying on some questionable tactics from his past as the Kingpin. He then sets up an Anti-Vigilante Task Force, which serves to strengthen his grip over the city. The problem is, Fisk isn’t a changed individual, and his task force consists of the most corrupt and brutal law enforcement officers eager to disregard regulations. In essence, Fisk grants them carte blanche to act outside the law.

Although Murdock once more took on the Daredevil persona, rescuing citizens from a dangerous serial killer, Fisk implemented strategies to apprehend vigilantes such as Daredevil. This won’t make things easy for Matt, but he intends to rally his own team to counteract Fisk’s corrupt plans. However, the emergence of another superhero group doesn’t simplify Matt’s resistance in any way.

Thunderbolts* Seemingly Giving The Green Light To The New Avengers Is A Complicated Matter

The New Avengers Are Not Exactly The Most Heroic Heroes

As a diehard cinema enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the intriguing narrative of “Thunderbolts”. Initially, a band of unconventional warriors came together to seek revenge on Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who had double-crossed them. Yet, fortune took an unexpected turn, and they transformed into a team, confronting a menace that potentially engulfed all of New York City. In the wake of this turmoil, before the haze cleared, Valentina announced this newly formed alliance as The New Avengers – an official, government-backed superhero squadron. However, it’s essential to note that not one among The New Avengers bears an untarnished past.

The team is made up of individuals: a previous Russian intelligence operative who obtained and leaked SHIELD secrets while being a super soldier; a former Captain America substitute, once a Black Widow assassin; and two highly-skilled assassins, long-used for carrying out undercover missions. Many of these characters have recently served as mercenaries but are now seeking redemption as the Earth’s foremost heroes, with their past transgressions seemingly erased from records.

Daredevil Looks Like He’ll Have Even More Reason To Take Down Kingpin In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Matt Murdock Will Not Go Down Without A Fight

Matt Murdock is an accomplished attorney adept at maneuvering through legal precedents to secure victories, even when the odds are stacked against him. However, it seems that proving the justification behind vigilantes such as Daredevil and other residents of Hell’s Kitchen and its vicinity for their actions may not be a simple task, given that they have never taken a life, despite being regarded as heroes in The New Avengers team. This turn of events could prove challenging for Matt, who tirelessly strives to protect others and adheres strictly to his moral compass, as he grapples with what appears to be unequal treatment in the eyes of justice.

As a fan, I wouldn’t be surprised if Murdock, rather than dwelling on his misfortunes for long, swiftly refocuses his attention on Mayor Fisk. It seems that Murdock is planning to assemble a group of vigilantes, ironically, many of whom eschew masks, to aid him in his battle against Fisk and his questionable policies within the city. If he manages to enlist the assistance of the newly formed New Avengers, it could strengthen his argument against Fisk, but it’s doubtful that “Daredevil: Born Again” season 2 will delve deeply into the happenings of “Thunderbolts.”

*Note: I have replaced “Thunderbolts” with “Thunderbolts*” to indicate that the show may only make a brief reference to these events, rather than extensively exploring them.
