TopMob recently had an exclusive chat with Lewis Pullman before the premiere of Thunderbolts, where he shared his feelings about portraying Robert “Bob” Reynolds, aka the Sentry – a character known for being one of the strongest Marvel superheroes. This is certainly understandable!
The highly anticipated Thunderbolts film is almost here, and it’s already garnering positive reviews from critics, including us. TopMob awarded the upcoming MCU movie four stars, praising it as “the closest Marvel has gotten to replicating the down-to-earth, character-driven storytelling reminiscent of its early phases.
The primary group of unconventional heroes, comprising Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Red Guardian (David Harbour) are compelled to confront a formidable menace, all the while grappling with their personal struggles.
Introducing the Sentry, a Marvel Comics legend, whose powers match those of a million exploding suns and who wrestles with his dark persona called the Void. It’s quite unexpected that the MCU has held off on this caped crusader for so long, but that’s about to change as Thunderbolts comes into play.

For Pullman, taking on such a significant role was a significant, nerve-wracking occasion. He confessed to us that he was extremely anxious about it. “I believe,” he said, “that this role is challenging for me, and the world associated with it is difficult to understand how I can contribute and what unique qualities I could bring to it.
Navigating my entrance into his world and maintaining my presence, despite the discomfort, proved to be a demanding yet enlightening journey… As I delved deeper into him and the various topics we encountered along the way.
In response, Pullman emphasized Hannah John-Kamen’s remarks about the Thunderbolts uniting as a team. He said, “It seems like they are trying hard not to be a team, but it can’t be denied that everything is falling into place like the perfect jigsaw piece.
If you’re fond of Marvel comics, you might recognize Bob Reynolds. He made his debut in Sentry #1 (2000). He possesses divine abilities, such as the ability to fly, extraordinary strength, and remarkable resilience.
In a nutshell, Sentry is among Marvel’s mightiest characters, yet it isn’t the villains that pose his greatest challenge – it’s the inner darkness within him. The Void symbolizes the destructive part of Reynolds’ mind, and it consistently endangers not only his life but also the world, thereby making his tale an embodiment of tragic heroism.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thunderbolts movie, it is anticipated that the portrayal of Sentry will emphasize the psychological dimensions of Reynolds’ character, delving into his ongoing conflict with the Void. This battle within resonates with the Thunderbolts team, a collection of individuals who grapple with their own personal inner struggles and dark pasts.
