‘Thunderbolts*’ Special Look Released at D23 Brazil

As a lifelong Marvel fan who has been through the rollercoaster of anticipation, disappointment, and ultimate satisfaction, I must say that the unveiling of the “Thunderbolts” extended trailer at Brazil D23 has me absolutely electrified! The cast is stacked with some of my favorite characters from the MCU, and the addition of newcomers like Lewis Pullman only adds to the intrigue.

In a sneak peek at Marvel’s forthcoming movie, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, along with their fellow “Thunderbolts” cast members, are demonstrating even greater prowess and strength.

On a thrilling Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Brazil D23 fan gathering, where the eagerly awaited extended trailer for our favorite movie was unveiled! It was none other than David Harbour, portraying Red Guardian, who graced us with his presence and proudly presented this captivating sneak peek to the audience.

In essence, The Thunderbolts are comparable to DC’s Suicide Squad; they are groups composed of villains and antiheroes who are compelled to undertake perilous tasks for the benefit of humanity. The cast includes Florence Pugh reprising her Black Widow role as Yelena Belova, joined by Harbour, Stan as Winter Soldier, Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost from Ant-Man and Wasp), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The actor Lewis Pullman is featured in the role of a mysterious character named Bob, much like his role in Top Gun: Maverick.

The film titled “Thunderbolts,” inspired by Kurt Busiek’s comic series, is helmed by director Jake Schreier, with Kevin Feige overseeing production. Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason Tamez and Scarlett Johansson take on the role of executive producers. Eric Pearson, known for his work on “Black Widow,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Transformers One,” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” collaborates with Lee Sung Jin, creator of “Beef,” and Joanna Calo, co-showrunner of “The Bear,” in writing the screenplay.

Pullman shared with EbMaster that his audition for “Thunderbolts” was so confidential, it felt akin to a clandestine encounter with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“It was a hell of an experience going out there and test screening. It felt like I was going into the FBI or something. It was all very locked and sealed. They’re like, ‘You’re lucky to hold onto a set of sides for longer than an hour.’ There were shredders everywhere. But Jake Schreier, the director, sat down with me and he told me the story, but I couldn’t read any script or anything. It was cool. It was kind of old fashioned in that sense. It was like, ‘And now by the campfire, I will tell you the story of Thunderbolts.’”

The superhero tentpole is releasing in theaters on May 2, 2025. Watch the special look below.
