Thunderbolts End Credits Reveal Major Fan Theory for Next MCU Movie

The film “Thunderbolts,” being a Marvel production, naturally leaves hints about future events. This specific movie incorporates not only one but two scenes during the credits – a mid-credit and an end-credit scene. Remarkably, the final sneak peek lends credence to a popular fan hypothesis.

In my gaming world, let me tell you, the newest superhero flick feels like a triumphant comeback for the MCU. Just as we mentioned in our glowing four-star review, “Thunderbolts seems to be the closest Marvel has gotten to reclaiming the gritty, character-driven narrative style that characterized its early phases.

Besides uniting a group of antiheroes headed by Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) and Yelena Belova (portrayed by Florence Pugh), we also meet one of Marvel Comics’ most potent cape-wearers: Robert “Bob” Reynolds, otherwise known as the Sentry (depicted by Lewis Pullman).

Unbeknownst to them, he bears a dark counterpart named the Void. The Thunderbolts’ storyline concludes with their task completion, yet it subtly suggests a major change for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s forthcoming events. Be cautious: spoilers are imminent!

What happens in the Thunderbolts end credits scenes?

In the movie Thunderbolts, not one but two scenes appear after the closing credits. The scene that appears halfway through the credits is followed by another one at the end, and it’s the latter scene that seems to support a popular theory about the Fantastic Four (continue reading to discover more):

First post-credits scene

As a gaming enthusiast, I find myself immersed in this alternate universe where the freshly-dubbed New Avengers, the Thunderbolts, are causing quite a stir. The world is grappling with their new identity, and it’s not all sunshine and roses. There’s been a wave of disapproval, with folks exclaiming, “These aren’t my Avengers!” Even Sam Wilson has taken legal action, claiming copyright infringement.

Instead of Alexei Shostakov’s Red Guardian (David Harbour) being overjoyed just to be there, he vows not to squander his recent popularity. In an end-credits moment, he can be seen in a local supermarket, proudly displaying a cereal box featuring the New Avengers.

He proudly places himself at the forefront of the packaging to catch a shopper’s attention, yet she fails to identify him. Upon leaving Alexei’s presence, she decides to discard the box.

Second post-credits scene

14 months on, we rejoin the team – formerly known as the Thunderbolts, now the New Avengers – at the Avengers Tower. Yelena expresses worries over a current predicament in space, only to receive an alert about a spaceship barreling towards their very location.

In this scenario, Yelena displays a satellite photo of the rocket and reveals the Fantastic Four insignia. As she does so, the iconic FF movie theme music starts playing subtly, hinting at the exciting storyline that awaits us in the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Yelena’s choice of the phrase “space crisis” has made some think that The Fantastic Four: First Steps might feature an Incursion, possibly instigated by Richard Reed. This hints at the potential arrival of the planet-devouring villain Galactus, which is why Marvel’s First Family will likely have to intervene on Earth-616.

According to a Marvel enthusiast, for those not familiar with Secret Wars and Incursions, let me explain. A cosmic disturbance caused multiple realities to collide and destroy each other in a chain reaction.

Eight hours prior to the impending collision, two Earths became visible to each other. This phenomenon is known as an Incursion. To avert this catastrophe, the goal is typically to prevent the Earths from crashing into each other, often achieved by destroying one of the planets to avoid the collision.

After completing that task, you’ve successfully protected not just our universe but one of the Earths as well. The “Secret Wars” occurred when the 616 universe clashed with the Ultimate universe (also known as the 1610 universe), and to prevent this collision, Doctor Doom constructed an amalgamated Earth from various versions of Earth.

In a nutshell, “Fantastic Four: The First Steps” is set in a universe separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and features Galactus as a character. Given that Galactus has a habit of consuming entire planets, this might imply a potentially destructive or catastrophic ending for the film.

Galactus, having already taken notice of the Incursions, intends to resolve one by consuming the Earth inhabited by the Fantastic Four. This act would sustain him and protect his own universe. As a result, Shalla Bal, the Silver Surfer of their universe, and the rest of their team, now bereft of their home planet, will be compelled to exist within the main MCU.

At a minimum, the post-credit scene of Thunderbolts lends credence to this hypothesis. However, whether this scenario unfolds in The Fantastic Four: First Steps remains uncertain. We’ll find out for sure once the Marvel Cinematic Universe releases its next film.

Without a doubt, there’s no denying that the interaction between these two superhero groups promises to be intriguing and exciting!

According to director Jake Schreier’s statement on TopMob, “I’m not sure the Thunderbolts will get along well with others or even among themselves. Therefore, I expect there will be a fair amount of conflict between them.
